immigrants are now having to be last on the list for local housing, 3,350 homes were given to new tenants from countries which have recently joined the European Union.Saying that it means that they will be staying longer in the hostels or mansion homes we are paying for anyway ! If you were to return home because of ill health and your capital was tied up over here, would you ask the local council for housing, under the impression that they would help you or had a duties to look after you, that is even if you are at pension age and in need of medical care ? would you go into a salvation army hostel ? What on earth would you do ? It could happen to any one of us..just find this intersting. Spider,X

spider we wouldnt stand a chance. I actually know someone who wentback and applied to their local council. To be told at least a 7 year list as we have to house the immagrants first. Its not likely we would get NHS treatment either after being out of the country for a certain period. Its so wrong when we have paid into a system. I know we choose to leave it .

Very interesting isn't it about the "rivers of blood speech": "The main political issue addressed by the speech was not immigration as such, however. It was the introduction by the Labour Government of the Race Relations Act 1968, which Powell found offensive and immoral. The Act would prohibit discrimination on the grounds of race in certain areas of British life, particularly housing, where many local authorities had been refusing to provide houses for immigrant families until they had lived in the country for a certain number of years." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enoch_Powell

It sounds like Brits returning would no longer find themselves at the bottom of the list.... Lilli, what makes you think that you would not qualify for NHS treatment? UK address, British passport end of qualification requirement.

You would qualify for treatment but probably be dead by the time you got it!! We had to go private to get an operation quickly in the U.K.and that was about 6 years ago.We also had to go private to get a decent dentist.I still pay U.K. tax but prefer to get my treatment here-you pay for it but there's no waiting for treatment or results!Stay healthy.regards Sue.
