I had a virus protection alert come onto my laptop stating that I had been infected with a virus and that I was being attacked and needed to clear it. I of course didnt look closely as it looked like my own protection and pressed procede, wrong, it then done a scan and said I had 24 viruses and if I wanted to clean it I would need to purchase their virus protection. The problem was it then prevented me from opening anything as it kept coming on and stating virus. It even stopped me eventually opening the internet. If you get this problem dont panic (as I did) as you won't have any viruses it is a con and the name was secure centre. Go into task manager and cancel the programme running and that cures it. Still can't work out how it came to get through onto my computer.

This is an old scam now.

However you should install your self a decent Virus scanner/Firewall or buy an Apple Mac.

These people offer free

AVG - I use this on my PC (no problems so far)

Kaspersky

It wasnt an avast scan it was called secure centre or something similar. I had avg free on here but it still came through and the firewall was on. I have now installed McAfee from my HSBC web site as they are giving it 1 year for free with full protection.
