Still the same. If positive for aids you would be asked to leave.

Now I know why they are not testing the over 60's, because normally it would be the over 60's that were tested for medical problems, to see if you were healthy enough to stay in their country.

But both hepatitis and tuberculosis are serious as well. Are you, Deniz1, suggesting nothing will happen? Do you know where we can read more about what the police is on this issue?

It's all a bit of a joke really shouldn't they be concentrating on the night clubs, and don't the 'local' young have sex and are as much at risk! Chris

I can't speak for NC but I did question the very same thing when in Dubai who do the blood tests and also do chect x-ray for the first residency visa. The reason for the checks is to find anyone with these potential diseases and refuse them allowance of residency, not so much for the seriousness of the disease but because of the prohibitive costs of treating them. They are as I am sure Chris will confirm, delibitating diseases that mean once the serious reactions of the disease set in you might not be able to be flown out of the country safely therefore they don't want to have to fit the bill of a foreigner when they can just as easily say no you can't come in. Makes sense really, in a way. I guess it is the same here.

Paul it is no longer just for the 1st residency it is every year for people under the age of 60! Does not matter that I have been married all these years and hubby is 60. I will have to do this for the next 5 years until I am 60. I just find it all a bit ludicrous what in gods name are they going to think up next? Chris

Chris, I know what you're saying, my darling wife has to do it for many more years. I have a slightly different outlook to this because my wife is non-european. Here she is considered the same as any non local which I think is fair. In the UK it is a nightmare to get anything done legally because she is not european, the fact that we are married and even that our son is british doesn't mean squat. Systems change and we either adapt to the requirements of the governing body or we decide to move elsewhere. I know people will say that it is difficult to just up sticks and leave when you have invested everything but the government is looking after the country not the visitors whether we like it or not. They have done the same thing or in my opinion worse in UAE with residency laws but people in NC only want to know about NC.

If it was to raise revenue they would test everyone regardless of age. My main bugbear apart from the hassle is being treated like a "sex trade worker" after over 30 years of monogamy. Obviously local people and over 60's foreigners are past the sex thing. At least that is the message from the government. Imagine the reaction if they tried to bring a law in like that in the West? Europe, the USA, and Canada, not Alsancak etc.

In this part of the world where there is a shorter life expectancy, 60 means about 90, doesn't it?

Pathetic ignorant people!!!!!! An aids test reveals diddly squat if you have recently become infected. T.B is rampant in the Eastern block and is back with a vengeance. There are more than 8 forms of Hepatitis and more metamorphasising fast. They will never keep TRNC free of all these infections as the tests are infrequent and probably unreliable with the standards here. Most people are already infected with TB but it takes a second contact to manifest the didease. Routine T.B. vaccinations have been stopped in UK and never even implemented in many other countries so look-out.
