Hi. there are 3 divisions - the third seems to have been split last season into two sections. admission varies. between 10 and 20 lira. the standard is not very high - i reckon about northern prem/southern league at best - and i think i have seen more poor games than good ones. but its a good experience especially with the locals getting worked up.

i try to get to a few matches when i am on holiday and watch lapta alsancak and the girne teams. i see you are in bogaz so there are a few teams over there. i believe famagusta is worth a visit as their fans are quite noisy.

i rely on the local papers for fixtures.

word of warning - elf and safety does not exist at some of the grounds so watch where you walk and sit!!

Maybe a TC board member can tell us if and when the weekly program is published in a local paper or on the Internet?

http://www.ktff.net/ should give you all the information regarding fixtures and results.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the English newspapers out here should cover the beautiful game in the 'TRNC' a bit more...

RE msg 6, ozwozz86: (...) Is it just me or does anyone else think that the English newspapers out here should cover the beautiful game in the 'TRNC' a bit more... (...)

=> A bit more?! Do the local newspapers in the English language cover it at all?! Many (too many) Brits don't care one little bit about any aspect of local culture. Look at the posts on this board - many Brits can't even spell the name of the village where they live or have a holiday home. Sad.

message 9 - i passed through iskele in june and saw a ground but cant think what team is called that play there.

dc - when cyprus star first came out i emailed them to see if they would include trnc fixtures but no reply.

isnt there a full page edited by expat in cyprus today weekend edition? think its on inside back page. maybe someone can contact him.

matches are worth going to just for the experience and there are only a few expats who go.

in 2006 just before world cup in germany a mini competition was held in germany for teams that did not belong to fifa. n cyprus won it. in 2008, i think, the elf cup was held in n cyprus with about ten teams who again did not belong to fifa. such teams as greenland, crimea, kosovo etc. n cyprus won it!! annoyingly i didnt see anything in the press about this competiton until just two weeks before and i had just left.

official site shows season starts this weekend. not sure of ko times - best to check local cypriot papers later in week. normally about 4pm.

i will be at alsancak v lapta - a local derby i have always wanted to see.

also there is ozankoy v tatlisu - only about 500 yards between the two grounds(tatlisu play at ground at bottom of bellapais village). dukzaya also at home who i think are based in catalkoy.

in div 2 there is a match in girne with tol being at home.

sorry graycoul didnt see your post. Cyprus Star have devoted a page to the local scene from today. Lapta at home saturday. No mention of div 2 so have put link in below for new lad as you asked about esentepe - they play on sunday

http://www.ktff.net/index.php?tpl=fixture_details&league_id=20

jimbo - yes there is a team in iskele called g birligi. they play at home saturday.

no premiership football on tv this weekend so a good chance for football fans who have not been locally to try the cypriot league out. i went to alsancak last week. 1-1. quiet first half but developed into a good end to end local derby. not much skill but alot of passion!! a few expats present wearing chelsea and west ham shirts

ref my message 22 i hope noone turned up at a match today for 4.30ko!! i presumed 4.30 like last week and didnt see anything on website or local papers. normally buy kibris sat morning to check but didnt do today. imagine my shock when turned on tv at quarter to four and saw live cypriot match plus latest scores including match iwas supposed to be at in lapta. drove down and got there for 4pm - it had started at 3.30. at least i saw the two goals(1-1) and saved myself 15/20 tl on admission.

so always check kibris/yeniduzen etc first

why doesn't everyone get on to Rev ' spurs supporter' in cyprus today and get him to give the weekly info. He gives plenty ---- re his team, his friends' teams etc, but nothing local. If we have access here, we can see results etc. ourselves re IK, Europe etc, not the same with local sport.

Rev walker, some local sport please rather than just the darts league from out west!

We know you read this.
