I know it has nothing to do with NC, but the obituary was well done.

RIP

molly its a lovely story what a man. May he rest in peace. I remember my father who was in an irish regiment speaking very fondly of him.

I would like to echo matula's comment on Msg 2. A disgraceful slur on the memory of a brave and humble man.

Non-coms rarely get the recognition that many deserve, the fact that many newspapers (including Irish ones) thought enough of Bill Millin and his exploits shows just how special he was.

This is no place for stupid childish comments like dataman's.

Just to make the point about recognition. From the Daily Record...

"Yet Bill was never honoured by his own country."

His boss Lord Lovat ended his war a few days after DDay when he was wounded, yet he still managed to get the DSO and MC. Who was the braver of the two? I mean no disrespect to Lord Lovat.

Bill was honoured by the French with a Croix d'Honneur, and a statue has now been erected in Normandy.
