Make sure you get your international banking details from your Dubai bank if you are planning to transfer from there, it is easier if they have the details at the bank here.

I don't think you will need your birth certificate for anything but I suppose this way you won't lose it.

Anything that is personal or sentimental to you and that you would be devistated if you never saw it again. Sorry if this is so dramatic!!

Oh Carol, if you wouldn't mind just popping down to the department of Naturalisation and residency and finding out why I can't just buy a house and get residency anymore like they used to, I am getting so fed up hearing about all the issues in North Cyprus about the government not complying with what the visitors think, it is almost worth going back to UAE where the ruler might just kick everyone out at a whim because he can.

Sorry Carol, couldn't help myself.

Just take anything you can't afford to be without and anything that is so personal that you would be devestated if you were to lose it, insurance can only replace the item, never the sentiment.

Not sure which airport you are coming in at, I would assume Dubai to larnace in which case, if you are ttaking documents about your container keep them hidden, not likely to be stopped but if you are it might avoid lots of questions.

I e-mailed everything to myseld and then printed it when I got there unless I needed originals

Paul when I returned last week I had terrible problems getting back in as my residence visa was cancelled in June, company closed down, and I am on a visit visa. Got a hundred and one questions and that was from Turkey as well, kept telling them all I had property here, they did eventually step down and let me through, very scary though as I thought I would never see my apt or contents again. Thing is when you own property, retire and lose your residence visa the government here will only give you a 6 month visit visa, your not entitled to residency even if you have invested in property. In reality I am now driving my car ilegally as you can not buy a car on visit visa you can only rent one. I'm flying Dubai-Turkey, Turkey-Ercan same as last time.

MrsSnakes not dramatic at all, the photo CD'S are packed now, would never have thought to put them in my case, thank you

Groucho, brain intact

Rocker, got both UK and UAE

Kavenkoy, boiled sweets a must

Thanks all

Carol

Carol, I will tell you the only issues I had, Etisalat and showtime. Etisalat will not cancel my account even though I don't live there any more and I have to go and do it personally to keep them happy. Showtime is done now but only because I didn't change to Orbit showtime.

I couldn't cancel my credit card until both of them cancelled there auto payments but I am not paying for flights and over night stay just to visit etisalat so I told the credit card company I will never send them any more money and the rest is up to them. Don't know what will happen next, probably will have lots of explaining to do if I ever go back to Dubai but I don't think there is anyway to leave there legally as they always seem to have some screwed up issue and hence my above point about all the NC government complants, it is the same everywhere and if you choose to live there, you choose to deal with the crap that goes with it.

Have a safe trip and enjoy NC, Paul

Carol, you seem to have covered most things. Just make sure you bring your sense of humour with you and all will be fine.

Oh Paul not problems with Etisalat, I am hoping to pay my final bills day after packers go and get the next flight out of here. I have had a very uneasy feeling about them since I went and changed the telephone bills to my name, I wanted to put the internet connection in my name also but they told me to leave in Jim's name as my internet would be cut of for about a week, DEWA also told me the same and wouldn't change bill to my name, where I may have trouble is getting the deposits back as they were signed for by Jim, guess I better carry Jim's death certificate with me to both places.

Geoff1131MK11, my sense of humour will never go, so no worries there. Just keep laughing........it's like inner jogging :o)

Dewa was no problem for me, I made the mistake of keeping my international line open with Etisalat so I could keep in touch until I got Turkcell sorted and then I had problems with Turkcell so it took a while, then when I tried to cancekl they said I had to come in and do it, if I didn't have a credit card I could just sop paying but getting the credit card company to stop is impossible without going there. I think it sorted now but as I say, I won't know until I go into Dubai again and get arrested for non payment or something at the airport.

Buy yourself a cheap external hard drive and do a full backup of your computer which you get to Cyprus away from the container. Most people just don't realise how much of their life is on their computer.

So there is that question again do I need a police clearance letter from Dubai or not some say yes, some say no. What I am being told here is that if I had a police record I would have deported on my passport as I don't and won't there is no need, that was from a local also.

Already backed the computer up ianwfs......thanks

Already reared the Haggis on TRNC hillsides when I was there Paul (newlad) they should be just about ready for hunting by the time I get back
