We are moving to North Cyprus in October for a one year trial and I was wondering if we will need many winter clothes as our luggage weight is limited.I am bringing an electric blanket and a halogen heater after reading other threads, but am unsure if jumpers, boots, coats etc are needed. We have previously visited in the warmer months between April & September. Thanks Terri

Hi Her indoors, You will definitely need sweaters and trousers and warm jacket for the winter. It isn't very long but it gets very cold at night. In march this year I was still cold and in sweaters both day and evening. I think you will find that you will need the electric blanket and more than a halogen heater. The Butlers wife

Hello Terri Yes, electric blanket vital for survival! and extra heating & warm clothes. The problem is the humidity. Beds and soft furnishings feel 'damp' cold. October in Cyprus is beautiful though and you will have time to ease gradually into the colder months - which are still a heck of sight warmer than Wales! All the best Jo Valentine

Hi Terri . Thermal socks and warm slippers are a must as tile floors are so cold in the winter, thank goodness it is a short winter .

Last winter I wore a light coat twice outside!! Evening can be cooler but most nights a light sweater inside plus we use calor gas fire. As for electric blanket, I would melt. Indoors it wil depend on size of rooms etc what heating you need. If you are staying a year then buying a gas fire locally is not that expensive. That was us for last 3 winters. Who know what might happen this year, being utterly selfish hope it rains for 3 months.

Generally the days are lovely, no need for anything more than a light jumper. Have even known to be outside having breakfast christmas morning. However, once that sun goes behind the mountains, around 4-4.30, it does get very cold. Electric blanket is lovely. Try to put a thick curtain on front doors and maybe bottom of stairs, that helps. it does get cold but doesnt last very long, you are doin the right thing by trying it for a whole year as apposed to a few months in the summer. Good luck

LL, your last comment about staying the year should be in red bold letters on every thread like this. Only way to find how any individual will react to all conditions.
