| RE msg 1, JohnW: (...) Now we can all see why certain people to whom Englaish is a second language simple don't understand and never will. (...) => Fascinating indeed to read how you - "Englaish" is your first language, isn't it? - write the "Englaish" language. I simply don't understand or should I write I "simple" don't understand? Yes, now we can all see how your post backfires. |

| @msg 1. That's not what the article actually says at all, unless you are referring to some English as a second language speakers' tendency to equate certain objects with certain genders. In fact the whole idea of "language affecting how you think" was largely discredited decades ago, as was mentioned in the first paragraph. The differences in actual thought are far more minor, as with the genderized nouns example and the use of cardinal directions instead of "in front of" etc. |

| For many years I thought that the deception used by the British In the Falklands War was brilliant. During the build up the press reported that the nuclear powered submarine 'HMS Superb' was in the South Atlantic and would soon be in a position to 'bottle up' the Argentine navy It was in fact being refitted in Faslane Throughout the war Well done Sienna! | Stupidity at it's highest level, six year olds act more maturely than this and I should know, they are who I have most converstaions with now because they can speak betterly than most of the intelectual giants I came across on here. Time for me to retire form having a serious thought I think. When an alcoholic falls on his face people expect it and laugh, when he shows up sober people are genuinely surprised. I think I will try to be serious and end the night making everyone laugh. Pauls thought of the day: The sooner most of the members on here realise it is a holiday forum and stop acting like insane asylum gang members the better. |
