As a Turkish Cypriot, I am just so sick of standing here and watching the system(status quo) in North Cyprus to go on like that. So called government and its officals can not govern the country. When I open the forum and read subjects, day by day am I realizing that more and more people get frustrated like I do. Problems, problems, problems. The question is, What can be done to change the system? What can we do? Each of us should think a way to disturb the politicians. New and widened civil society group is definitely needed. We have to start from some point..

It has not collapsed, it just works in a dysfunctional way as do many others, Pakistan for instance?

Cypriot 77 I would have though a quiet demonstration would help them to see that people are feeling let down by the government here, but it seems this is against the law..

Thanks for your correction Kate, I used the wrong word.

Why not Maria? Aways there is a way. A quiet demonstration is a very nice idea for start.

We ';yabanci' can do nothing. We cannot vote, and as guests we cannot proffer any opinion that is anti the estab lishment and it is getting harder and harder to stay here without tests and more tests - physical and financial. So, none of us may rock the boat. It is up to you whose country it is.

Of course if they made me a citizen I could say it is MY country, but that is currently not allowed either. So, I am afraid you citizens are the only ones who can try to help the Government go down the right road.

Life just ins't fair, is it?

Perhaps 10,000 letters to arrive on the same day might help ! But my guess is if they were written in English they would not be read...But saying that most people on here can google and translate print out too, something that this little spider is unable to do ) We just need a mail man !

I accept fully what you say, but its already been said as Guest's WE HAVE NO RIGHTS. Even when we have had the chance, like alll politicians they say one thing and do the opposite. They are making it clear they do not want us here. It is affec ting all guests not just Brits, there are many orhganisations whom represent various sections of the persons here, if they got together it would be a start showing a united front.

I fear that Turkey may soon sort the problem for you, before the year is out.

Cypriot 77 I like your post but it needs people like you to raise this awareness and many will support you, even thought we have no voice it does not stop us supporting you.

Two simple reforms wont change much but will be a small step in the right direction....

1. Have an odd amount (opposed to even that is) of Parliamentary seats.

2. Leglislate against MPs swapping parties mid term. If they are fed up with the DP party then they should resign and hold an election for that seat.

As a TC, you should know whom the 'rich club' consist of!

Unless you have the right connections, you are on the outside and the 'powers that be', who have created an untouchable niche for themselves, 'couldn't give a monkey's' about either you, or the very people who created their ill-gotten gains - the expatriate community.

Demonstration should take place at central Nicosia around old Kyrenia gate. I will search for the permissions and inform you. For me, people who love this country are its natural citizens and they have right to show their reactions. Second point is, I got invited by one of the big political parties to take part in it but I did not accept the offer. With their current structure, none of these parties can be productive. We will try to establish a type of organization that covers all divisions in the society. Rather than focusing on old style ideologies, our objective will be to upgrade the country's positıon and infrastructure. By the way, I will be pleased to attend and listen any meetings or discussions..

I think the problem is that we think Cyprus is a european country - in reality it works like a middle-eastern state, both north and south.
