She was lucky the cameras were working in the cell other wise no case

Because the custody reception shots would have been prisoner resisting

They the police have a difficult job but must be fair honest and caring AT ALL TIMES

it also may of been a diffrent matter if the camera was recorded on video cassette and not a hard drive of a pc outside of the charge desk room.

What a pratt, most officers now, know of the increased CCTV coverage, prisoners act up on occasion, but He has No excuse for his rough treatment of Her, He's bought shame to the uniform and public perception of a great public service. Can only presume that He'll be in solitary.

What I find amazing is that he has been suspended on full pay from 2008 and he has still not been sacked. What a waste of public money.

the police are sh*t in uk. I used to have a computer shop and you wouldn't believe the number of bent coppers that would come in.

A friend of mine fell asleep on the top of a double decker once so the driver just called the police. Police got on, went up, woke him up then pushed him down the steps breaking his arm.

A bit harsh that Mike saying that all police are sh*t.

I have a good friend of mine who serves with the police. Last year him and a colleague arrested an intoxicated middle aged man in a city centre street who was trying to kick passing cars. His colleague was spat on and my friend was headbutted but thankfully seen it coming and only received a minor injury.

Before it went to court the CPS dropped the assault on a police officer when the accused plead guilty to a public order offence.

Tootie (Msg12) Yes they should, In my experience, they hit the ground running, know how to prevent an incident escalating and can be relyed on, far more than some of the numptys that have never been in a confrontational incident in their lives.

A friend of mine arrested someone for Drug dealing), in the struggle, Suspect BIT my friend drawing blood, who then refused to be tested for HIV, My friend then had a 6 MONTH wait to find out if he'd been infected.

Tootie, pirate software, hard core porn. Was one who came in to actually get his computer fixed and told me a disgusting story about when he was part of the armed response team, the way he had acted 'in the story' was atrocious and would probably make most people on here physically sick. (I felt a bit queasy and I watch ultra violent horror films;-)

Now she got a little justice, albeit little justice,as you point out, suspended with full pay.

Wonderful for us to know the good bristish tax payer not only pays to keep the scum in jail but also paid him full to sit on his lazy bullying ass and get full pay until the outcome of the trial.

it's a good job he was suspended on full pay, he'll need that and probably all his other assets when she sues him now he's been convicted. Physical and Psycological damage, 2 operations, sleepless nights, panic attacks etc etc, sounds like he's going to have to find a couple of hundred grand...

Before you all go bashing the police force it is worth remembering that just as in all walks of life, you get bad apples. Tarring the majority because of the behaviour of a very small minority does no one any favours.

Tootie

As Ttoli says in msg 15, of course soldiers should be allowed in the police force. The fact that they have experience and training in dealing with violent confrontations is a bonus rather than a weakness.

It is worth remembering that gentle people can sleep soundly in their beds because others are willing to commit extreme violence on their behalfs.

you do get the sound at the beginning of the tape out at the charge desk, but it seems to go off when they are in the cell.

Seems all very sad,she was only sleeping in her own car,so they would like to say drunk in charge of a vehicle,if not in the drivers seat, that does not count, also if the keys are not in the ignition or on the person.

All that said,do you deserve a beating up for refusing to give a breath or blood sample?

Zero

The copper threw her into the cell which is how she sustained the injury. Not the behaviour that we expect of our police force and hopefully and justifiably he will now lose his job as well as doing time. But to be accurate, he didn't 'beat her up'.

I hope she takes this knuckle dragging, neanderthal, inadequate, dysfunctional misogynist to the cleaners, and cleans his bank account out - not every police officer is corrupt, but sadly too many of them are. They know this country is bogged down with cameras everywhere yet some have such a high opinion of themselves, they think a bit of uniform will keep them safe from justice. IF there were justice, now he has been charged (six months? out in three? what a joke - of course if it had been about tax evasion - they would have locked him up and thrown away the key, but he only attacked a defenceless, handcuffed, woman, half his size - so no probs there) he should be made to pay back every penny of his 'gardening leave' cash. Yobs like him give decent men a bad name.........

Well hello everyone, welcome to the real world. Lets see if we can change it. Who is going to take the lead? Unfortunately no one will put their hands up for that job. If you cannot accept it as part of everyday life and live by the rules of the country you live in then regardless of where you live if you break the law then you deserve your punishment.

What a lot of nonsense have you even watched the video???

"......but he only attacked a defenceless, handcuffed, woman, half his size - so no probs there"

This woman at no point was attacked but thrown in the cell which is where she sustained her injuries.

If you watch the video (the CCTV footage) she was hardly the most compliant prisoner.

Secondly if you listen to her interview she apparently woke up in her car and asked the police for a jumpstart yet got a 2 year ban for drink driving.

Anyone who gets caught drunk driving deserves to be thrown in a cell after the carnage that many cause. Maybe now she wont drink and drive again.

Lastly given the sentences handed down in courts these days for assault if that had been done in the street a slap on the wrists would have been given and NOT a jail sentence

Whilst I agree with a lot of your posting, I don't think that she was found guilty of anything. The report that I read said that all charges had been dropped through lack of evidence - extract from the Daily Mail:

"Police took Ms Somerville into custody after she spent the night asleep in her car in a rural lane. They say she was arrested because she refused to provide a breath sample – something she strongly denies. Although she was later charged, the police dropped the case against her."

In her interview on the link she stated that she got sentenced to 2 years. Having done some further internet based research she was referring to the timescale between the incident and the case being heard as a 2 year sentence.

It is widely reported that the charges were indeed dropped due to lack of evidence.

Having listened to her version of events there is obviously more to it than she makes out. Having apparently broken down in her car she went to sleep but was awake when the police came and asked them for a jumpstart. Hardly the actions of a sober, rational, single female early on a fri morning in July..........the date/time on the CCTV at the police station 04/0702008 at 1020.

you say hardly the actions of a sober, rational, single female.

what brings you to that conclusion, regardless of her actions as you see them,do you condone a animal of a man throwing a 59 year old lady about like a rag doll, regardless of your oviously more to it than she makes out!

Have you never fell asleep in your car, because i have, but i was clever enough to leave my keys hidden in some bushes even though i was as drunk as a lord,i did sleep in the back of the car also.

I do really hope some 1 is made a very big example of in this case.

Stubs, of course I watched the video - unlike the police officer involved, I do not make judgements without evidence (I accept the media, like people, can manipulate at times). That said, the camera doesn't lie - if it hadn't been for another woman, this matter would never have come to Court - the same Court by the way, that found this woman ENTIRELY INNOCENT and the Police Officer, TOTALLY GUILTY. Alsanjack, at no juncture does it say she commited a crime, and it is naive of anyone to think there aren't hundreds, if not thousands, of corrupt, bullying, misogynistic, misandristic (the opposite to misogynist for anyone who doesn't know) Police personnel in this country, indeed, the world. Bullying and corruption are part of the human element, and as a female I wouldn't walk alone at night, I would feel safer in a car, but as this woman found out (by not ringing her partner) pride comes before a fall - that said, she was entitled to think the Police would be her saviour not her enemy.

Firstly this woman was not found "entirely innocent" as you claim in a court. The CPS dropped the charges against her which is not the same thing by any manner or means. Failing to provide a specimen of breath IS an arrestable offence

Secondly she was not attacked or indeed handcuffed at the time in the footage. Perhap you may wish to view the footage again. She was thrown in a cell and that is how she sustained her injuries not via an attack as you earlier claimed

Lastly as I have pointed out she was hardly the most compliant of prisoners

A woman whos car has broken down chooses to go to sleep in her car parked up a rural lane rather than phone a friend, family member or for any roadside assistance is in my opinion certainly not the actions of a rational person.

Love your posts think you do it on purpose.

theres lots of videos I wish could be put on here showing the other sides of theing but then cant be done would be xrated as sure you know.

why is as soon as the police are mentionesd then the whole of a policeforce is corrupt bla bla bla.

get real we have to have one and there will always be bad ones thats life and having worked with them for 30 years I know I wasnt a bad one and neither were many I worked with or who worked for me.

I am not making any excuses and any officer caught doing it deserves what they get but come on .I havent watched the video but can assure you Ive sufffered at the hands of drunken women. gGve me a man to fight any day they dont bite kick scratch and spit in the same way a woman does and then they play the card that theyre women.

as ive said havent seen the video but just would like to know as soon as someone puts that word police out come all the stories I wish you knew them all!

I agree with you stubs.

But she may not of had her phone with her,she may of felt safer in the car than walking the lane,if it was a lane.

She asked the police man for jump leads,to me she seems to indicate with that, that she knew her battery was slightly flat,to me that is not the actions of a drunken woman,as most women do not know a big end from a piston

The once was sergent put her in a straight arm bar take down, what it is known in police circles, but not fully,as he used partly a wrist lock also.

Now come on stubs, answer my question, is that any way to treat a 59 year old lady?

i could be stupid and ask,WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR MOTHER, but i wont,as we both know you would be chirpin a diffrent dialogue.

Im only interested in the rights and wrongs of the men in blue, not the so called prisoner, she is a prisoner, and should be treated as innocent and shown respect, not treated like the sergents wife !

And 1400 less to keep law and order on our streets at closing time.

Given the choice of whether you accept that you will have a few bad apples in any group rather than anarchy on the streets - I know where my choice lies

Yep, I expect the lady will get a huge payout for her injury, I just hope that the figure is kept within sensible boundaries.

Your right paul.

1400 less to look after the streets.

But the new goverment that the british people wanted and have got are going to make lots more cut backs within the police force,so the news is saying today,so again under the concervative goverment, the rich will get richer and the poor will stay as they are.

or the crooks will get richer and poor will stay as they are, working for the crooks!

Dave

Given my mother knowledge about cars if the wheel had fell off she may very well have still asked for a set of jump leads ;-)

As i said earlier there is more to this than the woman makes out.

As for being a 59 year old woman if she is non-complaint as she was in the video then why should she get treated any different than anyone else after all that would be sexist and ageist

I am no tory by any stretch of the imagination (born and bred in the Labour heartlands of the Midlands) but I think that the current government have to be given a fighting chance. The Uk is in a mess and it is going to take some tough and unpopular decisions to get it out of that mess. Where the police are concerned, I just hope that any cuts are minimised where front line policing is involved. Cutting back on the amount of paperwork involved would also be a good start in getting officers where they belong - back on the beat.

Recently a police officer friend of mine had to arrest a man for being drunk and disorderly. The arrest occurred an hour before the end of his shift. He was still there 3 hours after his shift ended (on overtime) completing the necessary paperwork. The result - when the man went to court he was found guilty and fined £50. Maybe the courts have their part to play as well with stiffer penalties ??

Understood.

But i do not understand how you can say she was non-complaint,ok,refusing a blood or breath test, but she denies that was ever asked.

In the video, you can just see the once was sergent dragging her out of the side room and pulling her furiously out of the room,it looks like she stumbles,or being dragged so hard and quickly she cannot stay on her feet.

personally myself,i cannot see what you can see,or im missing some thing, still do not understand your use of the word (non-complaint)

ive watched and watched the video time and time again to try to understand (non-complaint)

Still sat here scratching my A, head!

Paul,

The tory goverment can have all the time in the world as far as im concerned,i dont live there,i will never live there again,i have no interest in the place, what i do know is,your a minority in your own homeland.

Wheres enoch powell, he might of stood a chance of sorting the hole out !

country has gone backwards.

Agree entirely, You saw what I saw.A woman stumbling as she was pulled ,then dragged along the floor and thrown down hard .

Those that say it wasnt that bad she was only thrown, not beaten. How about if I threw you down a flight of stairs.

There was a TV discussion asking why people hated the police that much that they supported RaoulMoat on facebook

After Tomlinson was murdered and the thug was let off, and pictures of that 5ft woman being belted by another big brave thug, and now this ,its hardly surprising.

A common statement when talking about bullies when I was young, Was that 'he would either become a policeman or become a crook'

Anyway suppose its better than Midnight Express, I would rather get bounced of the floor than get sha---ed by the fat bloke.

Message 66. We may not need message 65, but you have to wonder why ZC is so anti Police? "Kiddies" is just a guess
