It may help (new) board members to have a map of Girne (Kyrenia) with important official offices etc. I've made such a map - but it's far from complete yet. Please post your suggestions in this thread and I'll add them to this "Map of Girne"!

P.S. If this works I'll make a map of Lefkoşa also.

The "Map of Girne" will show on your screen if you click this URL: http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/Girne_offices_7295.jpg

As you may have read Proger1 has given up on his project - for reasons I understand. My map offers a quick look at important locations in Girne, which can easily be printed in screen quality or later in hi-res quality when downloaded from my site.

I think on an earlier post the car tax office is somewhere behind the hospital in Girne

some blood test clinics for residence (maybe charge them a one off 50tl to be included to cover some costs as they are bound to get work from this)

DC,

On your map, the tax office is where the letter E of State Hospital is.

Hi Hans I think the MOT stn should be shown off the first left on the girne to lapta rd as it is shown correctly but can be misleading , access cannot be gained from the second left

Brilliant DC, I wish it was around when I first came. Trying to remember back here are a few more things that, at the time, took some finding.

The Wednesday market, the Kyrenia Society library, doctors and dentists (but only as recommended by C44 members), tourist information office, the English Cemetery, Forestry Commission (where you buy Christmas trees), Kaymakam's (? spelling) office.

Good map - think someone asked for Gov Buildings to be added. Well the Kaymakam Offices are now located in a building to the right of the State Hospital in front of the Tax Office. I'm not sure whether the Land Registry is in this building or not - perhaps someone could confirm?

Thank you all for your help!

=> ChesterSue1: is the location of the District Office on the map right?

I have now enlarged the map (1000 pixels wide, easier to read on screen).

Next version will have a grid, so if people ask "Where is..." I (or you..!) can give this shortened URL http://is.gd/f1VYS for the map and A-7 for the location (example).

P.S. The map on my server in Holland is temporarily unavailable - it won't be long though.

Now on line: "Map of Girne" (1000 pixels wide, including a grid). Click URL: http://is.gd/f1VYS

A few more of the landmarks (like the Icon Museum) such as the castle and maybe places of worship too?

RE msg 29, Glynn: Yes, when Kyrenia is my final version I'll do Lefkoşa (North Nicosia) and then Gazimağusa (Famagusta), Güzelyurt (Morphou) - and why not do the larger villages as well? It all depends on feed back from the C44 members!

RE msg 30: flightholiday: Tom, the Icon Museum is already on the Girne Map. I'll add the two churches as well ((and the Jewish place of worship ("sjoel" in Dutch, but I'll find the name in English!)). Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Para-sailing: call Angela (05428555672) or visit her office in the old harbour, waterfront, about 100 metres from Kyrenia Castle. Good luck!

Hi Hans

Some late thoughts:

-Can one way streets be shown?

-Although street names are essential other well known points of reference (not for their merit) such as Barbaroslar, the schools, just for navigation.

RE msg 45, cyberwar: (...) Can one way streets be shown? (...)

=> I'll see what I can do when the map is (almost) finished. Making this map is rather time consuming, but maybe I'll find the time to check Girne town and put the main one way streets on the map.

(...) other well known points of reference (...)

=> It was my intention to help newcomers (and others) with just a crisp map "Where to find..?" - and unfortunately a digital map has some limitations. But again, after the main Government offices, banks etc are on the map I'll see what still can be added. Thanks for the suggestions!
