BBC goes with: John Higgins has been cleared of all match-fixing allegations made against him by the News of the World. But at a hearing in London he admitted bringing the game into disrepute by not reporting the illegal approach made to him to discuss throwing frames. As a result, the three-time world champion was fined £75,000 and banned for six months, backdated to May when he was originally suspended. Higgins, 35, said later he accepted the decision by an independent tribunal. "I welcome today's judgement by Sport Resolutions and endorsed by the WPBSA following their exhaustive enquiry into the allegations against me by a tabloid newspaper," the Scot said in a statement. He added that he was pleased that the tribunal had concluded that "I was not guilty of any dishonesty and had no intention to fix a match and no intention to do anything corrupt".

Zero do you actually read the articles whose links you put up? "Higgins, 35, was filmed as part of an undercover News of the World sting during a meeting in Kiev that was arranged by his manager Pat Mooney. But the three-time world champion did not face the more serious charges of match-fixing. They were withdrawn with investigators accepting he had only agreed to throw the frames in an "intimidating" atmosphere and with no intention of following the agreement through. Instead, both he and Mooney have been punished for failing to report the approach to snooker's governing body, World Snooker - a clear breach of the sport's betting rules."

yes groucho, i do read them, but of course i make my own mind up,of course its match rigging, throwing frames in my eyes is match rigging. Of course the snooker governing body dont want us to think that some snooker matches are rigged,it would be no good for the sport,so of course they find him innocent of the more serious accusation, what would snooker be with out all the fans. Its got to look squeeky clean hasnt it ,even though snooker has more coke heads than most other sports

"i do read them, but of course i make my own mind up" I think you'd need to be in on the investigation and see all the evidence before doing that with any degree of safety... Unless you are cynical and only want to read into a situation something that satisfies your own prejudices. Otherwise it's shoot first ask questions later.
