Posisbly not for much longer though , Turkey have warned that they will not continue to fund TRNC as they have before , hence Sept talks will be very interesting .

Somewhere in region of 275million ytl.

Many Turkish politicians are concerned about where the money goes, like most here, they are asking for full accountability of all future payments. That should prove most interesting!!

I'm not surprised the Politicians are questioning where the money goes. That's a hell of a lot of money though. Even more worrying is that it's only 30% of the cost of the infrastructure.

Surely that can't be right!

Doyen,

I think the poor old Turkish taxpayer stumps up a lot more than 30% of TRNC infrastructure. The entire costs have been covered in many cases. No wonder Ankara wants to change the dependency culture that has flourished as a result.

I'm inclined to agree Eric. It's probably close to 90%. However I can't see them withdrawing their financial support totally - can you?

£1,775 subsidy to every man woman and child in 2008

I just read an atricle in the TurkishPress website today.

Turkey's subsidy to the TRNC for 2008 is set at YTL 790,000,000

So, that makes YTL 4,438 or £1,775 for every TC Citizen (178,000 according Wikipedia)

No wonder Turkey would like to see Northern Cyprus embraced by the EU

And we wonder why the TRNC government is putting up the cost of everything it can to raise revenue at the moment, mind you the current recession doesn't help, but neither does putting up prices.

It needs to. But N Cyprus has lost so much talent in the brain drain over the decades that it's doubtful who will be capable of running the economic show

My goodness,

Kevin & Dee, aka DeeCyprus4 have pinched another one of my posts

It's a shame they are too lazy to change a few words, just to give the pretence of originality
