Please note that I do not do this lightly. I would like to find someone, who has the time and the commitment, to look after an elderly donkey. I need to relocate back to the UK for a period of time, which might eventually turn out to be full time. She is around 20 years old (donkeys can live into their 30's, although I suspect they do not live that long here), has an absolutely gorgeous disposition and is extremely trusting of humans. She was found a year or so ago wandering in a village where locals were beating her to keep her out of their gardens and as I have had experience with horses and donkeys as a youngster I took her on. She does not need a huge amount of space as she has a large growth on her leg and, whilst it gives her no pain at all and is harmless, it does affect her mobility to some extent. contd below...

All feed, tack and tools, medical supplies, advice and knowledge would be on an ongoing basis, as well as financial contributions to ensure she has enough of everything she needs. If you, as an individual, or as a group of people, feel able and are interested in taking this on, then please feel free to call me on 0533 8486952. Its a big ask I know, but if anyone out there can help I would be eternally grateful. Many thanks.

A good idea would be if one of the schools would adopt this donkey, it would teach the kids how to care for animals and give them a great deal of pleasure. In my opinion. Chris

Is this donkey safe to keep with other donkeys. I have two others, one called GR and another called Oracle but they are very possessive of of each other and I don't know if they can get along. GR is very frisky and will mount any other donkey male or female of any age, and Oracle is very jealou and may bite the poor thing.

HotHornet, perhaps contact Pertev the vet when he is back from hols Monday I believe. You obviously love this little lady so much and there is a young guy 10+ whohelps Pertev over the weekend, was recently featured in Cyprus Today with his donkey. Long shot maybe, but this wholefamily are amazing with animals, have the room and certainly the knowledge and experience. Good luck

Thank you for your suggestions everyone. YFred - in a previous post you mention GR and Oracle as dogs, so not sure if you are a serious person?! If you do have donkeys, then of course an un-castrated male will have the potential to be very aggressive and terratorial. I am not sure whether you are serious or not though? Natalie - thank you I may well do that as I had read about this young lad in the paper previously - however I think I have come across the family and am not sure they want another donkey on their hands. Schools - I had actually thought of this but am really not sure how much commitment a school can give and indeed weekends and holidays may be a problem. Kids can also be cruel which crossed my mind after one poor donkey was raped and tortured not long ago - negative maybe but....

YFred - the original post of this thread is genuine in that they need a carer for their donkey. I was suspicious to say the least that you responded to this (obviously) genuine post and the other one in which you mentioned your dogs, i.e. apparently your dogs have the same names as your donkeys, and the males were 'randy' to say the least. Now, as I said, I am old and obviously getting slow in my dotage, but, please, do not bring your anti-GC propoganda on here in the guise of being a genuine poster who is sympathetic to animals and their owners. The most annoying thing, as far as I am concerned, is that the fact the the people who were looking for carers for their donkey, asked for "genuine posters only". Jean For anyone who might be slightly confused, go to the GC Forum.

apc at least you could understand the language right? what does that make you dearest? Us True Cypriots are not very good animal lovers. We prefer human love and kindness. But unfortunately have not learned as yet to apply it bi-communally. But we do hope one day to be able to do that. Who is to say I don't have two donkeys and two dogs by those names. In fact my oracle is a sierga. you got a problem with that? I was going to offer sanctuary but I am worried that she will kill this TC donkey given half a chance as I adopted it from a GC fascist family.

I now know why I post very rarely on this site, and am not surprised that this thread has gone completely off track - an old cliche but I guess it has kept the post near the top, so in part your comments play some part. Thank you to those genuine people who do care enough to make valid suggestions.

Hot Hornet Try contacting mags111. I believe she has a contact at a cafe in Girne who offered lots of help with the 5 Karpaz donkeys. Its worth asking anyway. Jo

thank you marcosthechef - I have already had a chat with David Eacock who is doing a great job in relocating these donkeys up in the karpaz, but he has a lot on his plate trying to get them sorted and doesn't feel able to help at the moment. Please keep the suggestions coming though!

Yorgozlu my Oracle is the same, she never stops farting. I wonder if they are related. A follow up to my donkies, after banding GR's balls and they dropped off and he got so upset that he escaped and is now running around Timbu being chased by Mehmetcik. If they catch him they will make pasturma out of him especially as he has no balls and is no use for anything else, so if anybody finds him please return him to my sanctuary in Timbu. Oracle is missing him and has not had a bite since he escaped. I really do feel for Oracle that she may well starve herself to death.

On a serious note phone Lurucina Belediyesi and speak to Mr Barabaros and ask him to take it. He may well be able to help.
