I have just been watching a tribute to the victims on Italian TV. So moving but watching those images again just brought it all back. 9 years today. I had 4 friends and a cousin die at the world trade centre. May all the victims rest in peace and the relatives can come to terms with the reasons WHY.

Yes indeed Lilli. Many forget the devastation that day and the families still grieving for their loved ones.

Sorry for your loss, Lilli, and for all those whose lives were blighted by this atrocity.

RE msg 6, No1Doyen: (...) May they all Rest In Peace (...)

=> Hmm. How many hijackers were in the three planes, later also buried in the Twin Towers and the Pentagon? I think "may they r*t in h*ll" is an adequate addition.

Hans. I was referring to the victims - not the hijackers

Hans, take your "Carrie" thoughts elsewhere. Perhaps, if you can find the time to really think about it, you may come to realise that the pilots were also victims. in my humble opinion, there is only one way out of this, and that is forward, with everyone moving in the same direction.

Hans, I would never wish anything other than eternal peace, for all of the victims of the atrocities which were perpetrated on that awful day. Of course, that would include the poor brain-washed hijackers.

Rid the world of ALL religion, and billions of lives will be saved from here to eternity.....................

There would also be half the wars globally - there are now - maybe even less, much less..........

Really strange for us. We were in Singapore and handed a freebie newspaper on the underground. It had a photo of a building with a plane sticking out of it. I looked at my Diary to check if it was 1st April. Then on the ground outside there were a group of people with a banner stating their support for U.S.A. It was quite a while before we discovered actually what was happening. A great feeling of incredibility swept over us. Surely such a thing was not possible ? Who would do such a thing and why? I think numbness was our feeling. Later watching on TV, the numbness turned to horror.

And now, that silly man in USA wanted to burn Korans - what a way to remember a misguided hatred that ruined lives and almost ruined Islam. Now he wants toruin Christianity too.

When will lov e prevail, which is what both religions stand for, and all those poor people at memorial services today were not helped. Too much pain!

Hello Lilli, my apologies for going off-thread. Eventually, Inshallah, some sense may come, and a way forward may be realised, which may help you to believe that your loss had a purpose and meaning.

Thank you all, forgot to say the tribute was led by andrea bocelli,. i lost it totally when he sang Ava Maria. very moving, got goose bumps just writing this.We may never know why, i have listened to the controversy, seen the movie zeitgeist, which dispells ant terrorist involvement blaming CIA. whatever there was loss of life, 2400 children lost their a parent. if it was a terriorist attack then the martyrs had their 24 virgins waiting. Its interesting one of you mentioned Halliburton, when the movie I said claims he has made the most money from the wars that followed. Anyway I still wish they peace and hope the relatives come to terms. One lady interviewed by the Italian programme was a filipino whom was at a conference, went outside to take her coffee before the conference. Starbucks saved her life.(i know fate did) but hey if she hadn't been early and needed a fix, she would never have seen the events, her description we have all seen now x

I am a young American. One of the few, maybe the only on this board. I was 17, and in my last year of high school on 9/11. It was our first week or two of school during our first period classes when an assistant teacher opened the door and said there had been a plane crash at the World Trade Center. We turned on the nearest TV assuming there had been a terrible airline mishap, and so we were watching live when the second plane hit the towers and another plane hit the pentagon, the part of 9/11 that has been nearly forgotten since the day. I remember being far more terrified at the idea that anyone (we had no idea who had orchestrated the attacks at the time) was able to attack the center of the US military than a skyscraper in New York (I grew up about an hour from the pentagon, so all of our fear was only magnified). I feel I should state that I have no political view in mind when I say this. Sadly, being American has become a political view in the 9 years since the attacks. Cont.

I just wanted to share what I felt, as an American and a young person, on that terrible day 9 years ago and since. 9/11 will be what the 60s were to many older people. It completely divides the life of a person into pre- and post- periods. And yet despite that, almost everyone I know in America is still in favor of the "ground zero 'mosque'". We may be a convenient punching bag for a world that deserately needs one, and lord knows many of our politicians deserve it, but I strongly believe the future of America is largely one based on a youth population that believes in the basic, unalienable constitutional rights of freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

I just reread this, and my second post got all political. I apologize. I've been dealing with way too many mass emails from propaganda people today. My political opinion is not important. Although 9/11 did totally divide anyones life that day into pre- and post- periods. The rest you can ignore.

It was a terrible time, and caught on camera - we all feel awful about it.

Let's not also forget the innocent people killed in Iraq and Afganistan - they were also ordinary people going about their daily lives - there is no day to commorate them - they were (and are) just as innocent as those that went to work in the Towers on 9/11 - they had no choice, and they are still at risk, especially those that try and join the forces to work against evil - this is not about religion, it is about terrorists. same thing happened in Ireland - and guess what, those terrorists are now members of parliament (I will not use capital letters as I don''t think they deserve it)
