We have a house in Malatya and there is a dog in nearby Illgaz which is driving us mad yapping on and off all night. For some reason it is fairly quiet during the day. Last night it kept our friends awake who were due to leave for the airport at 4.30 am.

Does anyone know who this dog belongs to so that we can have a tactful word with the owner. Please no responses saying it is not the dog's fault, but the way it is treated. I realise that. It is the owner I have issues with.

It is not the dog or owner, this is a way of life here and many other countries, I would advise against speaking to the owner, unless you want a confrontation.

For some reason, (maybe someone knows), the dogs here bark at night, but not much durng the day. Ok, so now someone will say they have one that does, but there's always going to be one that doesn't conform.

Re Msg 5: I hope you are not advocating killing the dog.

We should not lower our standards in regard to domesticated animals.

I am not fan of pet dogs or cats, but neither do I support cruelty to any animal,

Dogs in hot countries tend to sleep during the day because it is too hot for them. Dogs don't sweat. Early evening (after his dinner) my dog will be very active and energetic for an hour or two then once it goes dark will calm down. A lot of dogs here won't calm down though either because they're tied up, hungry and thirsty or just don't get enough exercise.

I think it is definitely exercise that is lacking. Our dog (a 4 year old Pointer) gets 45 mins to 1 hour mainly off lead, twice a day. He goes out about 6.30am then sleeps mostly for the rest of the day and goes out again around 6pm. Comes in has his tea then sleeps all night.

sorry mate, i dont think theres anything that can be done. Unless....you contact the council? but they probably wont take any action and as this is cyprus even if they do, itll probably mean them just taking the dog away from the owner and abandoning it somewhere... Maybe it may be barking for a reason? for maybe food water etc?

Anyway good luck!
