I see the Turkish government won there referendum/vote on changes to there constitution.Does this mean you will see no changes in your current situation in TRNC.?? There application to join the EU is only about 20% complete and France and Germany dont seem to want them in the EU,perhaps they would be better off out of it.

I think Turkey are playing a double edged sword on this one. Go along with the EU get to the point where they have been promised the world with regard to trade, ebargoes lifted from Trnc, promises of funding etc, then get more for not going into the EU because of all the crap it will cause with the Germans and French, then open trade aggreements with the middle east and the Russian block, polital poker at its best.

Jefferson/Msg 7: 'They will not join there are no benefits.'

There certainly are - 'cash considerations' [baksheesh] works both ways - don't be naive!

message 8 They would pay more than they would gain. They have a strong economy at present and which weak E.U. countries do you think their money would go to. I can think of one straight away!

Message 9

Correct, but do they need us?

I am afraid I agree wholeheartedly with DN in message 3.

Hell of a negotiating position they have created for themselves though.!

DN has the point exactly - and wyn is spot on. Turkey is in a position to call the shots now although appearing to sit on the fence. IMHO they will wait until an an agreement is reached on the Cyprob (which may include EU and US dosh) and then ally themseves with the Islamic nations an Russia - telling the EU to bu..er off and sort its own problems out.

Well the EU can now get cheap labour with all those people, they want them OK one or two countries may interfere but Turkey is in a strong position. It was a close call, we wait and see what the minority will do now. I was told tonigh Ankara does not accept it x

It is such a difficult one - the EEC needs a moslem country within their embrace - and since when had any sort of 'human rights' mattered?? Money and strategic positiion comes first.

There has been a lot of EEC money poured into the TRNC (oh yes it has) under different guises.

Cyprus, due to its position, is a very desirable 'base' to have. Germanhy, France etc etc due to their geographical situation do not see the importance of Cyprus - USA and Britain certainly do.

I would HATE Cyprus, that is the TRNC, to join the EEC - when it all collapses (I am not the only one that thinks it will, and no not just my OH being the other one) those that were not lemmings will be able to say "I told you so..."

The EEC is not working now, and I don't see where in the future it will - it is surviving now on black market economy - if you try and work within the boundaries - you can't survivie?? Forced to cheat basically

Oh yes 3 mill EU to put a new road in town centre girne, 3 million to dig it up again and again, link road 6 years now open to be closed again, Oh you could go on Why it will all still go on whilst they can

As I have said before on this forum, Germany do not want Turkey in the EU. They have approx 4 million Turkish people living in Germany and they have no rights whatsoever (Cheap labour etc etc). If Turkey get into the EU they become citizens, payed more and treated different.

cyprus air soft...I have no predictions for TRNC for next year but i do think Turkey should stop out of the EU. They are in an excellent position as far as trade is concerned, most oil and gas from the middle east comes through their country. The EU this morning says that Turkey has a very long way to go to align itself with EU so is it possible they might turn their attentions to the TRNC and improve the situation there to improve their chances of admission. Could be interesting to follow this story...
