The ongoing tale of my Vitara that had an engine change during its lifetime as now been resolved. This is a step-by-step guide on how to get your changed engine on your logbook.

1 Go to the Police station and make a statement to CID

2 Go back in seven days to collect a Police report.

3 Go to Customs main office near Ledra Palace make an application in Turkish for permission to have a new engine.

4 Get the permission and the paperwork

6 Go to Customs duty office near the new merc garage and register paperwork in one office.

7 Go to next office have paperwork signed by a customs officer

8 Then go to another office where yet more paper is generate red.

9 Take that then to another office where a Customs officer decides on level of duty and fines to pay. In my case 465Ytl.

10 Go to payments office pay and then back to previous office for yet more paper now small forest is now accumulating.

11 Go to MOT station where an application must be made in Turkish for a new number to be iss

11 Go to MOT station where an application must be made in Turkish for a new number to be issued for your engine.

12 Take paperwork to Registrations where they issue a new engine number.

13 Back to Customs where new number is registered.

14 Go to MOT station and have new engine number stamped into your engine.

15 Go to any garage and have old number removed.

16 Back to MOT station collect new MOT

17 Then go back to registrations have logbook altered and stamped

18 Finished

My conclusions are.

It can be done but it involves a lot of messing about running between officers none are in the same location driving all over Lefchosa in the heat is no joke. The forms are all in Turkish and complicated I was just lucky that all the forms were filled in for me by staff who on the whole were incredible helpful and in the main sympathetic.

The boss at the MOT test centre the most knowledgeable and helpful person he explained every step I had to take and gave me direction to all the offic

The boss at the MOT test centre the most knowledgeable and helpful person he explained every step I had to take and gave me direction to all the officers I had to visit and what forms I needed. Believe no other official whether its Customs or Police they did not have a clue on the correct procedure and the order that you must do it in. If in doubt speak to the main Mot station not the clowns at Girne MOT.

Time taken.

A couple of hours at the Police Station

Two full days in Lefcosha

Total costs, 496 Ytl from the Police and 496 from Customs. One thing to be aware of the computer systems are up to date and all the Police info was available to customs on there systems as of yet registrations are not on line.

If you are in The Police system its no use getting a friend to get a MOT done for non non wink wink say no more, Customs are updated and will come looking for your vehicle

Or, grind the number off the new engine and re-stamp the old engine number on the new one. Don't laugh, it's been done!
