Has anyone had any problems with tiny brown ants this year? We've never had them before but apparently they're everywhere and can't find where they are coming from. It looks as if they are in the walls!! They are coming out of the skirting near to our front door. They are in the kitchen and hallway and they seem to be worse in the dark. As soon as the light is put on they seem to disappear.

Someone said they could be termites but, not ever seeing termites I wouldn't know.

If anyone can help, I'd be grateful. Ant powder has been put down but they're still there.

Thanks Linda

Put a pepsi bottle lid of jam/sugar close to where they are coming from and they dont go any further.

I have put my bug zapper right next to the door jam. In the mornings the ants traipse in, pick up all the ready fried insects and take them away under the front door! Fascinating!

It must be like the ant equivalent of MacDonalds for the little ones, and Mummy ant saying, 'thank goodness I dont have to cook tonight'

ok..i'm going.

We definitely have a lot of tiny ants this year. They are not termites in our case...

Get a magnifying glass and check out....

Termites are quite distinct in body shape and not like the tiny ants we get.

Sertex Roach spray (available everywhere for about 5 tl) is the best for dealing with ants. It kills them instantly and they won't cross a sprayed area for at least 1 month. You will often find a nest outside near their entrance point to the house (which may be some way from where you are seing them inside) and spraying this will stop the problem.

I also tie a piece of cloth around the trunk of my citrus trees and spray it with Sertex; it stops them climbing and spreading leaf curl disease.

They have taken the paint off my staircase wall( Colored) to reveal white original paint with a most amazing pattern, when I first arrived I thought someone had been let loose with spray snow, only to discover ants and a pile of paint on the floor!! I sprayed for 4/5 days and they have now gone.

Many tiled floors within properties are laid on sand which seems to be like a holiday resort for ants. Apart from all the sound advice above for ridding these ants I have found that regrouting floor tiles and skirting greatly reduces their ability to be attracted to staying indoors. If they enter via doorways etc they do not find their holiday resort.

Friends of mine had them comming out of the light fittings in the ceiling!!! No amount of spray etc worked. Had to get in the local pest control to sort them out.

Good luck.

Agree with message 10 re cockroach spray. A bit drastic but is an instance cure - 'till they find somewhere else to get in, that is.

I too have suffered with them this year. Where do they come from? Well they really are very clever, they enter the house and find their way to an electrical socket which they enter. Then by simply walking along inside the conduits, they can emerge at any other location in the house, including light fittings and shaver points as well as any power socket. Sertex sprayed around the edge of the sockets helps.

we have had lots of problems with these tiny ants, they bite as well. worst thing is they get on the kids as well!

i used ant powder, i found that was the only thing that worked, but you have to keep the powder down, as soon as the ant powder goes, they come back.
