If, after giving blood for the first time and receiving confirmation of the blood group and acceptability, why not photocopy the pink card entry on subsequent donations as proof "for that year" that your blood is free of whatever concerns the medical authorities?

The system needs our blood, also the system does not need any additional pressure on collecting blood samples.

Anyone got any views?

Great idea, but someone has to organise it, and as Shakespeare would say 'there's the rub'! They wouldn't let you or me do it, and they wouldn't have time or staff to do it. Can't employ ex pats. Won't take volunteers. But might think about it by which time the law will have changed again.

But I still think it is a great idea.

Hey DK

Brilliant idea the best I have heard in years on this blood starved Island. It would encourage more people to give blood when it is so desperately needed, but me thinks this Gov is still blind to improvements. Its going to take someone in the No or someone in the powers to be to actually get this one going, be it the BRS or Nurse Awful. Waiting with baited breath.

Never going to work;

I tried it in 1999 having given blood a week before my first residency.

They didn't want to know then and they won't want to know now.

Asked the BRS at the time and I was accused of being a freeloader.

I think its a great idea but sadly wont get off the ground. I tried a few years ago to introduce the donor card. Because of all the accidents here and the organs going with the deceased. I now understand why as the Muslims must be buried intact. However at some point they go to south or Istanbul for organ donation

Your blood donation does not fulfil the requirement for TB testing.

Groucho is right, and I not sure it fulfils the requirements for haemophilia (sri if I have spelt that wrongly!) and AIDS either (??)

If blood donations are not screened for AIDS I'd be truly amazed, surely that is a pre-eminent requirement?

If not, there's no way I'm ever having a blood transfusion here!

A lot can happen between your last blood donation and the residency blood test.

Nice try, but no cigar.
