TRNC Highway department announced Yeni Erenköy-Karpaz road is out of order and can not be used until the second order.

Department advice to use Ziyamet-Kaleburnu-Karpaz alternative road, which is simply describe as 'torture' )

for Karpaz travellers.

Are you referring to the "coast" road from Yeni Erenköy to Dipkarpaz?

In June this was impassable for small vehicles but although the alternative southerly route took longer, it was very pleasant and was far from "torture" so I suggest people should not be put off by the warning.

I've used the alternative road several times. While a little more twisty and narrower, it is far from unpleasant. The problem is, the sort of description in travel guides are wrong, but treated as gospel and repeated in other guides.

If you were to believe the "Rough Guide to Cyprus", the road heads

"Eastwards to Dipkarpaz. Shown rather optimistically on virtually every map, (it is) really only negotiable with a 4WD vehicle with high clearance, and even then at speeds hardly exceeding walking pace"

Simply not true.
