Going back to uk for a visit so need to hire a car while i am there, got quotes from all the car hire firms at stansted and made a booking with enterprise because they were the cheapest £360 for 18 days!!!!!!

Just had an email from them giving me a list of documents i need to provide

*

Driving license (If UK, both parts)

*

2 x Proof of Address ( E.g.. Utility Bill/Bank Statement, something within the last 3 months)

*

Passport and Boarding Card

Does anyone know if they will accept utility bills from here.

Never had to provide all this stuff before when i have hired cars

I have flown into Stansted and used hire cars often over the last few years

But I have a Uk address

Try Thrifty or Nationwide seems unreasonable they usually just take credit card details and put a reserve on the limit i.e £360 block off £1000 so do you have headroom on your card ?

Hi Teresa

I used Enterprise when I went back in June. They didnt ask for any proof of address and I used my TRNC driving licence. I think that if you are using your TRNC driving licence and have your bank statement with your address the same as your licence then you will be fine...the guy at the desk at Gatwick was very relaxed about the whole thing, and the car I had was really good. They took a £200 deposit from CC which was ,much lower than any of the other companies too.

Tinkie thanks for that, will ring them tomorrow just to make sure they will accept trnc license and bills. Just my luck to get there and be stranded but good to know you have done it.

No prob, I was a bit nervous about using my TRNC licence but the guy at the desk didnt show any interest in it being out of the ordinary at all! I did have my UK licence with me as well, but didnt show it to them as its still in my maiden name and they didnt ask for it.

Hope you sorted it Teresa. I always use Enterprise, and no real probs. Always have to take paper version of U.K licence; passport, but have a family's U.K address, and of course a credit card, so the bills have got overlooked.

I think that is to sort out people who are fly by nights! Which of course YOU are not.

But you must be hiring a whopping big car! But hope it really is O.K.

Maz i wish i was hiring a big car but because i can only drive automatic the price just goes through the roof.

The car i have booked is a 2 door economy car but you never know at that price they might even give me a free upgrade!!!! oh i can wish.

I've hired cars from a number of different companies in the UK - most recently Easy.car - and have never had any problems. I always book and pay on line, as it's normally cheaper, giving my TRNC address. I only ever give them my TRNC licence when I arrive and that, plus my credit card is all they have ever asked for.

If you wait till all the standard cars have gone it is quite often the way that an upgrade is all they have left...

Don't be fooled when the say 'would you like to upgrade that for only nn pounds?' as this is usually the sign that they are going to have to give you a free upgrade as they don't have any budget rentals left and this is their attempt at seeing if they can get you to shell-out the extra. Company policy

Teresa . one of our family who lives in the T.R.N.C. permanently has just returned from visiting the UK. The hire car was with Europcar and he used his TRNC driving licence and they asked for £250.00 on CC. That was all he needed.

Teresa, have you looked at cost of one way hires from Airport then use a local hire company while at home, i know there are one way hire charges involved but if you can get a car locally at cheaper rates, the overall cost in the long run may work out better for you.
