Ice floating on the Arctic Ocean melted unusually quickly this year, but did not shrink down to the record minimum area seen in 2007. That is the preliminary finding of US scientists who say the summer minimum seems to have passed and the ice has entered its winter growth phase. 2010's summer Arctic ice minimum is the third smallest in the satellite era. Researchers say projections of summer ice disappearing entirely within the next few years increasingly look wrong. BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11322310 As it happens there are many eminent scientists who hold that the evidence for man's possible culpability in global warming is doubtful and based on much assumption and 'pseudo-science'. The idea that the world's weather patterns are or ever have been a static thing and not chaos are increasingly looking poorly researched by some seeking only to either hold other countries back or to get a research grant.

There was no global warming during pre historic times and no humans so why all the glaciers and the ice age? Its just the world weather patterns i think.

Rocker, I've got nothing against green measures where there can be proven benefits for human and animal health of course. Lead in car fumes is bad for health, I don't think anyone is disputing that. Lots of good measures to reduce human impact on the environment. I don't think anyone is disputing that. But global warming - lots of scientists are now saying we've got it wrong. Weather patterns and geographical phenomenon have always been in a state of flux and Man's ability to influence it is minimal, if even possible.

CFCs were phased out as being an ozone layer depleter. The CFC propellants in aerosol cans were replaced with a gas similar to methane/propane which, aprt from being dangerously flamable, are greenhouse gases. Out of the frying-pan, into the fire.

Msg 4 That's exactly correct, but the powers that be want you to believe different so they can implement their green taxes on everyone, for example, all this bollox about heavy road tax on some 4x4's.

I would argue agianst "its not our fault. Its nature" idea. because People will see what they want too, regardless. But its already to late. So whats the point in arguing.

It's not too late, it's not possible... Many eminent scientists not afraid to cry foul when pseudo science is put forward to suit a political agenda hold that man's effect on the global weather pattern is marginal to say the least. There are much greater forces at work and man has no control over them. Any thought otherwise is as arrogant is it is misguided.

There are problems in the southern hemisphere with the depleting ozone layer - skin can burn in as little as ten minutes. There are vast number of cows that maybe have a little flatulence and emit gases , and this does not help the problem!!!! Because of this the government in New Zealand wanted to tax the farmers for the gases that are blown out! A protest group called FART... 'Fight Against Ridiculous Taxes' was formed...a good idea for any country...??? All cars now have to have catalytic converters fitted, these wonderful expensive (useless) pieces fitted to exhausts convert carbon monoxide and hydro carbons into carbon dioxide. Isn't it carbon dioxide that depletes the ozone layer?

never believed in global warming myself, just scaremongering by so called 'environmentalists'. The earth goes through cycles. Gets a tad hot and then gets a tad cold, over and over again in thousands of year cycles.

Blackbird Msg 12. The ozone layer's hole in the southern hemisphere has fixed itself by the way according to NZ scientists.

Re message 15 unfortunately the ozone layer is still depleted over New Zealand, my daughter lives there, and we were out there not long ago, and they still issue warnings on 'burn time'. It's just like a flame burning the skin.
