Just back from Lefkosa with only 1 years residency not just for me but for hubby as well! Hubby was 60 in April and when we asked for 2 years were told no! No explanation, nothing.

Chris...we shall be renewing ours in November and we shall ask for 2 years when we go to Girne Polis. Then when we go to Lefkosa will ask again and we will let you know how we get on.

We do think it depends on the person who you are dealing with and how they feel on the day and as you say 'if your face fits'!

As I was told when refused permanent residency they do not have to explain anything.

Surprised about Mr Nurseawful though, maybe he looks too young.

We asked at the Police Station (over 70) and were told "no" so didnt bother when we went to Lefkosa, wish we had but thought it wasnt worth it. Wont ask at Police next time, just take 2 years money with us and hope for best!!

Yorgozlu,

If I had taken your phone number with me I would have got you to talk to the guy to ask you.

Acquaintance's of ours he is over 60 and his wife 54 they both got 2 years, so why one rule for one and one for the others?

Did my renewal two weeks ago and when i went into the office i asked the young lady wether i was getting one year or two. She said 'only one year you have to be over 60 to get two ' I told her i was over 60, my birthday was in June this year, she checked in my passport and gave me two years. Very pleasant about it and joked when i went back in with the reciept for payment that she would see me in two years.

If you are unlucky enough to get the miserable young woman with glasses in the residency office just forget it, it takes her all her time to look at you, but the tall guy with the goatie beard is lovely and really helpful, we just got two years with no problems.

hattikins, it was the lady with glasses that dealt with me. Maybe it was my attitude to her that helped!!

I can't believe you didn't get 2 years Chris, as with your job, you know about smiling and being nice. You just hae been really un lucky on who you got that day. Agree with Steve, that the police in Girne have no say in it, it's up to people in Lefkosia. They were just going to giv e me 1 year, but when I asked they changed the paperwork to 2, without a problem.

We went on Tuesday. I am 63 and my partner was 60 in April. We saw different people in Lefkosa and were both asked if we would like 1 year or two. Needless to say we both got 2 years. As I understand it it is not an automatic right to get two years so I guess we were lucky and unfortunately some people are not.

At Girne they offered me 6 months because I was to young,

His words were "How can you be younger than me and I still have to work"

Message 12

The last time I was there this young woman was extremely rude to everyone no matter how pleasant and polite people were to her, the other staff in there I have always found very helpful.
