I recommend Iktisalat. Good service, interest rates good on lira, and English Dept.

Very pleasant staff, who actually remember your name!

Whatever bank you decide on, keep well away from Akfinans Bank and KOOP Bank. Both are local banks which are in the process of evicting legitimate purchasers (both expat and TC) from their homes. Do not give them your business.

What ever you decide - decide this - don't put all your eggs in one basket!

Spread your money around... you know it makes sense.

OK it's not so convenient as having just one banking relationship but it makes perfect sense in terms of security.

Local Cypriot banks have not had a good history, many have failed over the past 20 years... So safety would be my biggest concern.

Most people consider the large brands (HSBC, IS, Garanti, ING) to be the safest. I would go along with that.

Turkish Bank & CreditWest I'd consider. Turkish have been around for over 100 years, so certainly not a fly by night.

CreditWest is relatively new, but is the only local bank that I know to have been independently assessed by a Rating Agency. So I would take a look at them too. http://www.creditwestbank.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=200%3Ajcr-eurasia-rating-evaluation&catid=48%3Abasn-bueltenleri&Itemid=221&lang=tr

The newer banks with no history, rating agency, etc, I'd probably avoid but you should make your own mind up.

Message 13 you should know that just because a bank has been assessed by a credit rating agency (Standard & Poors, Moodys, Fitch etc) does not mean they are safe. You surely remember the Icelandic Banks and many others that failed or had to be rescued by goverments in 2007/08

The credit rating agencies got it badly wrong.
