A completely natural snack, carob pods are natures very own candy bars. Eat them just as they are as a snack, sweet, chewy, nutritious, what more could you want? The Carob tree, Ceratonia siliqua, is an evergreen native to the Mediterranean region. Carob pods are high in calcium and vitamin A. It also contains B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, and the trace minerals iron, manganese, chromium, copper, and nickel. The seeds are very hard, don't try and eat them, just spit them out. http://www.funkyraw.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=161 Also it is believed to be an aphrodisiac. Traditional uses.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carob_tree Not good if you've got dentures! :-( Navek

One of my favourate time of the year few others though. When Alic, Nar and Dut is available. Of course not forgetting Incir. You guys just don't know how lucky you are. I really do wish I was there. With a bit of luck in the next few years I will be able to spend more of my time in Cyprus then in London. Not that is what I call living.

Our dog loves carob pods... they are good for dogs but they do leave the seeds about - Sparky you messy boy. Be careful - it is an offence to pick the carobs until the official start of the carob picking season.... last year there were arrests. Ignorance of the law is not a defence.
