Does anyone know if you can purchase breakdown cover when i cross to the south . I know the insurance is just 3rd party so that will not cover it.

also If you have an accident and the car wont drive then do you get towed to the border on the insurance cover bit or is it again that you need seperate breakdown cover??

bit late to ask as car broke down 9km from the top of troodos! (car still there!),

not really the best place to abandon a car!

Anyone therefore know for future reference/.

many thanks in advance.

hi susie if you bought the insurance for a minimum of six months then you are cover for a recovery. if your insurance is less then six months then you are not unless you have a british insurance or a separate insurance. in any cases they will only take your car to the border and you have to arrange from there. i would advise you to find a garage in the south that is willing to take your car over the border or tow it yourself.

good luck

Susie.. I'm afraid it looks like you may need to arrange for a 'rump' RoC transporter to get it to a crossing point - DO NOT called it a 'border' - as you might get a bigger bill from a GC who will ( correctly) inform you that the only recognised border in Cyprus is the Med... !!

OR

arrange for the car to be repaired in the 'rump' RoC

Three years ago my car broke down in the Troodos and it cost me only 30 Euros to get it back to L'sol

Groucho....I appreciate *I'm* in the 'minority' on here .. but can you point out where I'm FACTUALLY mistaken ?

viz: UN / EU definition of the 'border' .....

Groucho: if the original poster's car has broken down in the 'rump' RoC - she needs all the help she can get.... referring to the Green Line as a 'border' isn't 'wise' when she needs 'friends'

Re. msg 7: '....if the original poster's car has broken down...'

Better to hope that the lady's vehicle hasn't been 'broken down' for parts, already - if so, it wouldn't be the first.
