I'm just wondering if it is possible for an architect (from Bangladesh) to get a job easily in Cyprus? I've both B.Arch and MSc degree. I've got phD offers in UK and it would be naive to say that I don't want start a phD now....but the BEAUTY of the Island lured me to think something otherwise, somehting about Cyprus.

I've got four years experience in working both in academia and practical projects. Although my MSc is all about energy simulation, natural ventilation and stuff like that, I'm good at designing and visualization. I can fit in both academic and architectural firms....wherever needed.

I can send my electronic CV if this message is struck by someone from architectural background and eventually my portfolio, if needed be.

You could have missed the boat.... you should have been here four years ago and designed The Cratos Hotel instead of the guy who did... as he appears to have been a specialist at designing prisons...

As a study in how bugger-up the kerb appeal of a prestigious building I suggest you take a look at it (the top level in particular) and make a mental note never to copy this design... even if you are asked to design a new prison.

Would that be a Bangladeshi degree?

Grouche, I always thought the same about the Cratos Hotel . I thought I was the only one thinking like that. It could have been much nicer(the outside)!

I once heard tell of a young man working for a well known estate agent who although trained as an architect, "GAVE IT UP TO BECOME AN ESTATE AGENT"presumably to try to sell the rubbish builds he had designed!!!

I know a Turkish Cypriot young lady (born and bred here) who trained for 6 years and qualified as an Architect in the US. When she returned home to TRNC the Chamber of Architects (or whatever it is called here) would not recognise her qualifications and she was forced to go back to University for a year to qualify.

joandjelly/Msg 9: 'she was forced to go back to University for a year to qualify.'

And so she should have been!

After all, it surely requires extra ingenuity, application and specialised 'in house' training to be able draw up 'concrete tents' suitable for 'dump it and run' 'builders'!
