Tried to sign into my Hotmail account, but keep getting this message...

"Before you can sign in to Windows Live, you need to create a new password.

We recommend creating a strong password to help protect your information."

Have any other Hotmail account holders been told this?

I'm quite happy with the password I have at the moment, and do not want to change it.

Sounds a bit " iffy " to me Kev .Lots of things are happening with Hotmail lately. It could be a scam to get you to reveal your password. I know three people who have had their Hotmail accounts hacked recently.Do not know what is going on there .

if you have any doubts about the message your getting ignore it and log in as usual you can then go to your msn/hotmail home page and change the password yourself there just to make sure that no one else has hacked it if you feel safer changing it

I had several emails telling me to change my windows live (hotmail) password, but not to my hotmail address. Each mail contained a link to use.

As I had recently changed my password I ignored the emails which eventually stopped coming. I have not (so far anyway) had any problems signing in to my windows live account.

I recommend G-Mail.

But remember that if you change e-mail providers then you will need to update your membership profile on this board to reflect your new e-mail address . Anyone not having a valid e-mail address may end up having their membership terminated.

Mine had to be changed as well only yesterday. But having read this, I think I will change it again now to be on the safe side.

Thank you for highlighting it, I didn't consider it to be sinister before now.

Hi Folks,

After 3 days without Hotmail, I bit the bullet and did what they asked,

as I'd gone into MSN every way I could, and it still they asked for the same info...

"Before you can sign in to Windows Live, you need to create a new password.

We recommend creating a strong password to help protect your information."

Got into my account, then promptly changed my password again.

All appears to be OK now

Hi Navek

There seems top be a HUGE issue with folks having their yahoo / hotmail email account compromised and the users accounts address books recipients get spam emails with links to meds sites..

How / why it is happening I'm not sur - yet, but running trend micro's house call in addition to getting your own a/virus definitions are up to date AND changing the password - accessing via the Microsoft home page SHOULD help minimise the risk...
