Mark

I don't live in the UK these days but I seem to recall that there was a staggering amount of untaxed vehicles on the roads a few years ago. No tax equals no insurance and should you be in an accident with one of these vehicles then you can be left high and dry. Personally, I have no problems with the DVLA looking for untaxed vehicles, after all if you are driving legally, you have nothing to fear.

Just my opinion of course

Mark, has it ocurred to you that it could be that you are the target and the frenzied camera work is to allay any suspicion on your part ? Perhaps permanent residence in TRNC is the answer

Private roads I wouldn't have thought they had any rights to do this?

Cars don't need to be taxed on private land.

I'm all for it. I think people would be amazed at the number of untaxed vehicles on the roads. As mentioned above, no tax means any insurance they might have is voided (even if taxed, the number plate recognition system is linked to the insurance database, so it picks up uninsured vehicles as well.) In addition, many drivers of those vehicles have no licence either.

The owner of any vehicle that is technically off the road and therefore not taxed/insured/mot'd e.t.c. has to sign and submit a 'SORN' (statutory off road notification) and any car that is not on the SORN database and is not taxed/insured/mot'd will leave (quite rightly) the registered owner liable to prosecution.

I think I was more shocked at our quiet little road having the 'attention' - I'd hardly think anyone was the 'type' to go untaxed'...

YES.. I think it's a good idea... BTW...
