Well will you idiots learn to walk down main roads into the traffic rather than have your back to it ?

I see people in their 50's 60's and prob 70's that still walk with their back to the traffic, you'd think they'd know better by now ! God forbid im driving down the road and my phone goes or im fiddling with the radio and next minute there is someone walking down the road that i havn't seen. If you see me the idiot driver coming towards you at least you have a chance to get out of the way and hurl abuse at me ! what chance have you got with your back to me ? Answear: NONE.

My Message: ALWAYS WALK INTO THE TRAFFIC ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT !

P.s If you.ve read this post it may well have saved your life !

For instance yesterday The fat woman walking down the new by pass trying to loose weight with her sony walkman on. What chance would she have had if a car or whatever lost control ? if your reading this fatty go walk down the other side of the road tomorrow and see for yourself, you'd prob never walk down it again, or better still go find a safer place

cyprusjoker,

I agree with you people should walk along the road facing oncoming traffic, as regards idiots don't you feel your an idiot if you drive whilst using your phone or fiddling with your car radio, and no I am not an idiot walker.

does no one get the humour in post 1, if you did drive and use phones etc, they are hardly likely to post it on a forum, i for one took it as a "jibe" at the driving standards in cyprus........

Yesterday I saw a cyclist coming towards me on the Girne/Lapta Coast Road as I walked towards the traffic noting all the damage to posts and pillars etc which had been struck by vehicles in spite of being set well back from the road. I felt totally vunerable and was grateful that at least, unlike the cyclist, I had the choice of facing the oncoming traffic. I admire his courage and hope he completed his journey safely ! TRNC is a small place but with my car in for service the half mile walk seemed like a Safari on foot in the African Masai Mara Game Reserve with only the defence of a toilet roll. Cyprusjoker's sound advice is well justified.

It is pretty scary, often walkers are wearing dark clothes at night and with the glare of the lights from oncoming traffic you don't see them until the last minute. Then there are young children wondering so inocently on the side of the road, at an age where I wouldn't let me children out past the gate. Just too much fast traffic on long straight roads.

Cyprusjoker,

i am on the by pass most days and on Sunday I not only encountered people walking away from me, people walking towards me but a bicycle and a truck carrying windows driving straight for me on the wrong side!!!

And on top of that had to contend with the people driving through red lights! And that was only on one day, thank goodness my friend who is here on holiday witnessed it as nobody would believe it!

Try running along the road between Lapta and Karsiyaka, running the right way facing the traffic. Drivers tend to drift over to take a look at you, once or twice a swift jump into the ditch was required.

We were being driven to the airport some years ago. The driver went through red lights. When I questioned this the reply was...Well there are no Police about!

Terry, running along the roads in car fumes.... bonkers. Is there no playing field you can use? Run up and down a beach... much better for your joints too.

Groucho have tried other area's unless you go up in the mountains, park up by tank and run along there, its a long way to go. Beaches and tracks tend to be full of ruts. Fumes or broken ankle.

Once you turn off main road up hill into village no problem, locals wave or laugh.

I meant running around by the Alsancak football stadium etc. Some of the roads down to the sea are also better suited to jogging and running with lower car numbers and other considerations. The driving is so bad here the main roads are just too dangerous...
