HiI am a newbie to this forum and started looking when I was planning a holiday to TYNC. I firstly want to thank everyone for their participation, whether you realise it or not there are many people like me looking at this forum and probably basing their decisions on where to go/eat/stay from that.

After my holiday I felt I should take the time to give some feedback. I hope you will take this in the spirit it is intended, I do realise that the requirements for someone on holiday are very different from long term residents so please understand that I am basing this from a holidaymakers viewpoint. Firstly I love TYNC, my first ever visit and I was blown away by the beaches, people, but for me above all by the history and antiqiuties. I was sadly disaappoined by all the restaurants, I did not have one good meal in Cyprus, e.g. Silver Rocks was our best lunch, my OH opinion of Errols was "the mixed kebab was barely passable, it was mixed and a kebab that's it. Sorry

Firstly wantolovetync,

Not sure where you went on holiday as this is the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus TRNC.

I find it really hard to believe you didn't have a good meal here given the abundance of restaurants. If the food was so bad did you complain at the time to the owners / managers of these establishment? The requirements are the same for us living here we also like good food and value for money!

As you have just had your holiday here and have now joined the forum I thought I would point out that it is TRNC not TYNC - welcome to the forum. Hope your lunch at Silver Rocks was enjoyable as personally think their food is fab, never been to Erols.

Wantolovetync: Sorry you say you never had a good meal in TRNC. Its seems unbelievable, there is so much too choose from. On our last stay we only had one bad meal in four weeks and had lots of excellent meals. Never tried Erols. We had 3 teenagers with us and they never complained, apart from the one meal.

You just didn't eat in the right places cos Niazi's is fabulous, Guido's is too and very popular as is The House in Girne. Surprised you liked the beaches though as unless they are owned or you get charged to frequent them they are an utter disgrace. Not just like rubbish tips but full of dangerous hazardous materials ie Hospital waste and needles/syringes etc; Hotels keep their beaches clean and Savarona is free plus food is lovely. Dome has a salt water pool besides their regular swimming pool with a lovely outlook but there is a charge and food is not cheap. Ada hotel have beautiful pool and beaches and used to charge 15tl which included a spag bol meal or burger etc; Excellent day out. Coffee was wonderful but beers around 7tl so could get expensive depending on how much you need to drink.

if you think the food is bad here and you live in uk where the food is definately not as good as it is here there must be something wrong with your taste buds in my opinion.

I also find that very hard to believe, you must have visited the wrongs restaurants. We have lived here for nearly 6 years and the food is fab. You should try going to the South the food is really crap there, we frequent Paphos and Aiya Napa a lot and never have good meals - the north is by far the better for good quality food in my opinion. I have to agree with the above about the beaches also, they are a disgrace.

TYNC? You must be GC. What a trick to play on the forum. Considering the food as as good as the south and at least half the price? Who in their right mind would want to visit groc with no decent beaches.

I have visited TRNC several times now and can honestly say that I have not had a meal that I didn't enjoy whether it be in a restaurant, small cafe, or a hotel. The quality is always good and the service is first class. I enjoy coming out to the TRNC to try out different places and have never been disappointed so far. My family are quite fussy and it is never a problem to find something to suit everyone. If it is not on the menu something will be sorted out for you without any fuss. Just my personal experience.

Ate at Erol's just last night. Excellent meal as always from start to finish. Our guests who do not live here & have not eaten at Erol's before said they rated it 10/10 & far better than some other restaurants they had visited during the last fortnight.

Don't take any notice of the GC newby, That's our orcale in a new disguise trying to destroy the TRNC economy. GCs are very good at that.

Couldn't disagree more strongly. Having been a regular visitor to TRNC until 3 years ago then not returning until this year the choice of restaurants and standard of food has risen considerably. The Indian food at the Nosheen and pasta mania superb. Both the other italians we went in were excellent and the food and entertainment (Danny Fisher) at Al Shaheen great. China House served it's usual excellent Chinese and the smaller local restaurant next to it served up the best meal of the holiday although overall probably not the best restaurant. Silver rocks good food in a wonderful setting and pizza king great for a burger whilst watching the football. Stonegrill good food but a bit pricey considering you have to cook it yourself! We didn't get the chance to venture into Kyrenia where there are more excellent restaurants. The only disappointing meal we had was in the grand looking Chinese on the hill overlooking kyrenia as you come over the mountains. Overall for quality and value 9/10

I have to agree with most of the comments.

We have been visiting TRNC for well over ten years - eat out every night - and in all that time have probably have had two or three bad meals.

Usually the first week is taken up visiting our favourites.

I wish it was the same here....

wantolovetyncc is obviously a hit and run merchant and is best ignored and for someone that that calls the TRNC 'tync' is definately on a wind up.

Until we get a reply from this 'new' member then I would not get too wound up about the original message.

Jessie, I find it strange that in all the restaurants you mentioned, not one was Cypriot or Turkish. Some of the finest food around is served in these restaurants, why not try some on your next visit

I agree stilluvithere, however jessie is right with:

The only disappointing meal we had was in the grand looking Chinese on the hill overlooking kyrenia as you come over the mountains

We went there once a few years back and it wasn't good, unusual for over there...

I had thought the small restaurant I referred to next to China House was local and as I've said the meal was the best I had. I also really rated the cafe in AJ centre but I only had a kebab wrap.

Wantolovetync - Lilian at 56 you should know better than to make a fool of yourself which you have.

The food in North Cyprus varies between good and excelent which anyone who has eaten there knows. Sometimes the service can be iffy but is nearly always friendly and polite.

When I have eaten in the south of Cyprus (ROC) the quality was far worse, the service very poor verging on impolite and the prices far higher that in the TRNC.

Crikey 35 replies most of which sarcastic, attacking (her) or vehemently defending (the TRNC)

Ok whilst I would agree with some replies that there are some lovely restaurants, the OP was simply saying that SHE didn't happen to visit any which were nice in her opinion, so instead of being sarcastic and running down where she lives in the UK why not just give her some good recommendations for her next visit!! Mind you, with the standard of the replies I dare say she'll never visit again!! Who would want to mix with most of you lot!!

The Y and the R key are quite close for us one fingered typist. It could have been a type error. There is no obvious edit facility. Please give people the benefit.

Patrick Msg39 - The only time there is an R Y error is in TYNC every other time it seems right. I think that this was a wind up and so might be best left to quietly die off.

PS The tourists who want the TRNC can see so many favourable posts that Msg 1 will not even count in the scale of things.

Re Msg 41 see msg 28. There is a limit to the amount of kofte and kepab I can persuade a four year old to eat. Having been to the TRNC ten times and eaten out probably close to 100 times I have tried pretty much everything on offer. I do not feel the need to eat large amounts of local dishes that I am not particularly fond of just because I happen to be in a particular country. Holidays are about having a good time. In my book that includes eating whatever dish I want whenever I feel like it.

GOOD restaurants should NEVER have an off night. Sorry but if you expect the customer to shell out night after night the standard should be maintained, should one customer pay 100 bananas one night for a splendid meal and the next night pay the same for a poor one. No way the restaurant owner/manager is there to ensure consistency and the buck stops there. Take peoples money AND deliver.

Krypton, one post in this thread so why dfo you feel your call to close should be listened to? I think the debate could run on longer with plenty more of interest.

1 Are there any really good restaurants in the TRNC? By that I mean really good, world class?

2 Is there anything even above average?

3Should we accept a off night?

4Can any TC or T restaurant be considered great or are they just great at what they do?

Just a few unanswered queries from this thread, still think it has done its death?

Should we accept an off night?

Certainly not.

Publish it here.

We went to Shayna\Manhattens and the evening was ruined by the restraunt having a VERY off night.

Went to a lovely restaurant when we were over earlier this year called the Green Hill restaurant & bar in Arapkoy, it is in a lovely setting & garden child friendly with a play area, they bring out the food to you & you cook it on a bbq at the end of your table or they will cook for you, make sure you book if going at the weekends asy they get extremely busy especially on a Sunday
