Either way... looks like she's going to be executed - first female in US for 5 years and first in Virginia since 1912.

What are your views on capital punishment/state executions?

Personally, i think execution is much too easy a way out. I think life in prison would be much harder...

I know if i were the perpetrator, i would prefer death to sitting in a cell for the rest of my days!

I agree it does seem to be the easier option DD but what about the cost on the state ? we in the UK already carry enough folk who are milking the welfare system.

Funny how those on death row often don't see it that way....

However, my problem is not with the guilty but the innocent... so many people have been proven innocent after they've been executed... Imagine the terror of that!

Should those who sentence a person to the death based on the flimsiest of circumstantial evidence (yes it does happen in the US) be held guilty of culpable homicide if it turns out the executed person was innocent?

What about law enforcement personnel who fabricate evidence to attempt to pervert the course of justice... is that attempted murder?

How do you feel about the person who actually did the murder managing to avoid the needle in the circumstances as set out in this case?

I don't believe that anyone has the right to play god.

Blade, I agree with you. I even have a problem with God playing God... When you see the suffering of innocents it does challenge your beliefs.

Re msg, yes she does a bit ;-) bit of a woof. By the look of her she would be in 'heaven' if she was locked up for life ;-)

I think they should bring back hanging personally, just my view.

"I think they should bring back hanging personally, just my view."

Mike how could hanging not be personal...

My question is Mike... how would you bring back the hanged when later found to have been innocent?

you are right , you cannot bring back the hanged and unfortunately you cannot bring back the innocent victims who have been murdered.

Whilst at University I ran Amnesty International for our Uni, and to this day I remember a quote from their...

"The death penalty legitimizes an irreversible act of violence by the state and will inevitably claim innocent victims. As long as human justice remains fallible, the risk of executing the innocent can never be eliminated"

Amnesty International

If the justice system was infallible then there maybe a case for capital punishment, till then I'd say I'm opposed to it.

For those who have committed the most heinous crimes, their punishment should reflect that, maybe?

If arguing for capital punishment, instead, why not let the victims family loose with guilty party for 5 mins with a blunt instrument if retribution is wanted?
