Does anyone out there maintain a mailing list to send out emails in bulk? If so: how many emails does your TRNC ISP's SMTP server allow you to send per hour or per day? Which provider is it?

I ask the question because my ISP (Nethouse Networks) suddenly only allows me to send 15 emails - and then I have to wait 30 minutes before the next group (15 emails) can be sent! It's called anti-spam, but my mailing list is legal. (In Holland it was considered "possible spam" if one tried to send 3000-4000 emails at once! Not much different for most ISP's in the UK, I suppose).

Dutch I have sent more than 500 at a time with nethouse although it was a while ago. Can i ask you your outgoing smtp is asssigned to nethouse or your emails isp. This might make the difference . Nethouse told me to use their smtp outgoing server but I dont I use my emails one. This might be your problem. Also what program are you using for sending bulkmail is it free.

Ataturk: I use the Nethouse SMTP server (or Gmail if there's a problem with Nethouse). The POP server is in Holland. I use Maxbulk Mailer Pro for Macintosh.

Try changing the smtp server to the original one for the email it doesnt matter that the server is in Holland I had problems with Nethouses smtp server. Bulkmail ususally depends on who hosts your mail servers and whether they wil allow bulk mail to be sent, is it a gmail address

Hi Hans,

Nowadays it's very easy for an ISP's user to become infected with mailing malware that takes over their PC and starts to mail out spam.

The result is that the public IP address get's black-listed and if it is a shared IP address, it affects multiple users who then have problems sending and receiving emails.

It's common practice to place restrictions like this on a mailing account.

Why not set up your email on a free Google server and use their system, it can be configured to work with all the most popular clients and I think the limit is 500 emails a day.

Washerman, I fully respect my ISP's right to limit bulk mail and I understand the reason. And I know about and how to use Googles SMTP server. But I remember that six years ago in Holland I could send 3000+ mails in one go - and I find only 15 emails per 30 minutes (!) in TRNC (info from Nethouse Networks) much too restricted. And YES I do know that this is not Holland.

Hans,

Another possibility - thousands of customers (x 15 emails per 30 mins) is a lot of emails (possibly with attachments - you know the amount of daft emails that get 'forwarded' around) and takes a massive amount of upload bandwidth which is in short supply at the moment.

If you need to send these emails, I can only suggest using another SMTP server
