If you want your parcels to come direct to TRNC without a holdup at Istanbul, you should write as follows:

Your name and address in TRNC followed by:

North Cyprus,

Turkey

Destination: ECN

If you have the parcel sent by "DHL Express" it will be routed directly to Ercan but if it is not "Express" it will go through Turkey but still pass through safely.

This is the information I obtained direct from DHL representative in TRNC.

Billyboy,

My understanding is that this is a special arrangement with DHL and does not affect the normal postal services.

The trouble with private couriers such as DHL, UPS, TNT, Fed Ex etc. is that anything subject to customs has to be dealt with in Turkey or have it redirected to Ercan with enormous costs. On the other hand any parcel sent by normal post or EMS will get to your nearest post office and you can pay the customs duty on the spot with no hussle and no extra charges.

Only yesterday I wanted to order some spare parts from USA and they refused to send it by ordinary post and insisted that I choose between DHL, UPS or Fed. Ex. I think the reason is that the private couriers collect the parcels whereas the post office has no such service.
