just to let you know that after our car broke down at the troodos last week....... local garage came and towed it away . They then arranged for a local to return 5 of us to the border. 5 days later ...new engine required and duly fitted, (reconditioned /used). oil change , air filter plugs, new belts, fixed exhaust problem i had before. Runs perfect now. could not have possibly done any more for us. Absolutely brilliant. Was charged 800 (eight hundred) euros in total. MANY MANY THANKS to MICHAEL from the greek garage!.

Susie Contrary to what some say on here about GC's, it is nice to hear a positive story from the South. Personally, I have never received anything but decent service over there. On the whole, I have found the majority of GC's to be polite and helpful even when they know that I am from the North. Unfortunately, the political situation leads people to let the deeds and attitudes of the minority, tar the majority. Such a pity. Paul

did you get your log book updated with the new engine number ?? A most traumatic experience, I think most people dread it happening.

Ahhhhh, now the trouble begins!!!! Next time you go for MOT, they will tell you that the serial number on the new engine does not match the old one. I am speaking from experience. Many years ago when the company car I was using went for the MOT, the inspector said that the serial number on the machine was "double" i.e. some numbers were not printed properly and they had a second go at it. They charged me for using a stolen engine. My company was happy to pay the fine and the customs duty on the engine but the trouble was that I woıuld not accept the charge. The car was held at the police station for months but I was adamant that I would defend myself in court. This was a nationalised company, so in the end they dropped the charge but the customs duty was duly paid. You better find out the correct proceedure before they bring charges to you. ismet

Better to hop back over to see Michael and ask him to stamp the engine number of the 'rooted' engine on the 'new' one - remember, anything in Cyprus can be arranged for a small cash consideration! You may think I'm trying to be funny/clever - but take heed of what 'elko2' says, because you'd better believe you won't want the hassle and expense he's just warned you about!

Was aware of the engine number problem and going to the police station to ask what the procedure is (along with the obligatory charge). will let you know when i do. Think i may take along a turkish speaking person to overcome the language barrier.

quite right elko.... major problem now. police and all relative parties involved saying i have to return to the south garage and ask for proof as to where the engine origionally came from. Written documentation required. Then i have to find a greek policeman to go to the garage and confirm this. Bring all this back and fill in a form asking for permission to import this engine at immigration. then back to another office and so on. and so on. Was told by a local garage today to do Exactly what tenakoutou said. Now really concerned if i did this and the mot office notices it then it would make matters worse!. May be worth taking a chance of the mot not checking it next time. If i sold the car i would have to declare this problem as dont want any comebacks. Question is ..is it then worth anything.
