Once a article is published on the web it will be open to plariarism, copying e.t.c and I would imagine that most authors except this as part of the worldwideweb evolution.

Yes. And they apply for the WWWeb also. No exceptions. Although the rules vary in many countries and the local/national courts have the last word - until there is complete and adequate EU-legislation.

Nigel,

The author (journalist, photographer, graphics journalist etc) have THE RIGHT to get a full credit with his work. Any author has the copyright on his work. And no such work may be used without the written permission by the author or the holder of the copyright (can be a paper, a publisher etc). Crystal clear ain't it?

Has anyone on this forum ever repeated a joke that they have seen on these boards, or related a story.

Dont know what the fuss is about, if anything it's highlighted more info on pools.

ONLY MY OPINION

for pity sake , it's a bit extreme is'nt it , does it matter so much if someone repeats a bit of knowledge he's read off another forum , it's just sharing , it's all a bit much , it would'nt bother me in the least , i've more important i could worry about , but it does say something about the person who is complaining , he's hardly a team player , wants all the glory for himself

have a good day , simbas

We all copy and paste jokes and we never know who he original author is but this is something different. Putting copyright matter to one side, it is common courtesy to mention the name of the original author and even give the source and the link where appropriate.

I have been quoted many times myself and indeed I like that but I do expect a mention as most people do.

You are entitled to have an opinion, although this does not mean that you know what you are talking about. Relating a story (giving the impression that you wrote it yourself) is called plagiarism, breaching the copyright or more commonly "theft".

1 : The point is that some people live from what they write - their works should not be stolen.

2 : Some people write and don't like it when their work is stolen - and they are right (the subject of this thread).

That, Simbas, is what it is all about.

Hans, without being pedantic, we all copy and paste articles, jokes, quotes sayings etc, however you cannot expect us to acknowledge the author every time we post something - can you.

Simbas and Jock

I'm all for sharing knowledge, hence the time I spent compiling the original guide and placing it on VillaOwners BB where everyone can read it -not just members.

When someone plagiarses a work, and then accepts thanks for spending all the time writing it, I think it shows that they are not of an honest nature and certainly not a "team player"

BTW I found another post of mine that Kevin & Dee had also copied and pasted word for word from VillaOwners, so it's not an isolated incident.

forgive me dutchcrusader , i know what it is all about , but surely a little information passed on does'nt have any financial loss attached to it , if thats the case , we will have to pack up forums like these { thats if someone 's job is in journalism or a craftsman who wants to hold on to his knowledge } as most everyone on this forum repeats what's already been said when a new poster asks a question .

Passing off someone else's work as one's own is a pretty low thing to do. Even if the original author is a jumped up t*sser.

For those members who may now be confused

I am a moderator on VillaOwners BB

Campbell/Pike/Eric Seans is currently moderated on this board, due to his foul mouth that he is often unable to control, as you can see from this post

Simbas, no problem. Thanks for taking the time to read the original post

Mark you are a moderator on that board that is correct. Many of your posts have been directed at a certain member who's replies you also moderate, hardly a fair playing field is it?

I have to disagree with most of your comments. Sorry.

I really cannot comprehend your view of Mark. I have never been "moderated" by Mark in any post on VillaOwners. It very much depends on the content of your post, and whether that would be acceptable to the majority on a family forum. So, if it is not, and you know it's not, I really don't understand your difficulties? You run the risk of being "moderated" and it's a matter of common sense really.

Have a great evening. Lovely to see you posting again. x

We all quote information gained elsewhere: encyclopedia, internet, technical journals, workshop manuals etc., and generally there is no need to acknowledge such 3rd party sources, but when one simply regurgitates a fellow BB members posting as their own, with changes that suggest it originates from your own personal knowledge/experience, then that is unacceptable. Mark is quite right in being hacked-off.

Personally I think this plagarism is outrageous. It reminds me of some original thoughts I've had recently that I'd hate to find someone else nicking 'whether it is nobler to the eye' (choosing wallpaper) 'I'm just popping out I may be sometime' (off tt Tesco) 'peace in our time' (I got the tv remote control back) 'we'll fight them on the beaches...' (re terrible litter problem in NC).
