Please look at any retired greyhound website to see what happens to these beautiful dogs when they can no longer race or refuse to do so.

The plight of these dogs is appalling and the only way to remedy this is to ban grehound racing altogether

Surely we are not advocating greyhound racing on this site. Having had four retired greyhounds in the past few years I know from 1st hand experience the plight of these beautiful creatures once they can no longer race. Examples include being shot, thrown off motorway bridges, abandoned having had their ears cut off (identification purposes) and worse. They are just money making machines.

Totally with you on this one, smwredd, I don't have greyhounds but I do have sighthounds and I have friends in the UK with retired greyhounds who make the most fabulous pets.

Anyone considering going to this event really ought to Google "retired greyhounds" to see first hand what miseries these lovely dogs endure and they often spend the rest of their lives in kennels....absolutely scandalous !!

Some men beat their wives, so I suppose we must ban marriage too

A somewhat strange analogy I feel.

They will want to ban cars next,as they could be dangerous to dogs crossing the road!!

You cannot tar all greyhound owners who race dogs as the same.

As usual people seem to be missing the point. Greyhounds are used to make money for their owners and when they no longer can do that many ( and I don't say all) are discarded in a cruel and unnecessay way either being shot at 3 to 4 years old or abandoned or quite often hanged. Now, if you are condoning this action then you must be very a hardhearted and uncaring lot. Drawing analogies with cars, husbands, etc. is ridiculous. Actually, I fail to see why greyhound racing is being promoted in TRNC when as far as I am aware none takes place here.

It will be taking place on Saturday night, that's the point. I went two years ago when the stadium first opened. Serkan only had six dogs, two attempts to run a race, dogs were OK but bunny conked out twice. Was a great laugh, guy with a guitar entertained us. He will need his greyhounds for breeding so doubt any will be 'discarded'. Please give him a chance, the stadium is an exact copy of Sittingbourne Greyhound Stadium in Kent (so he says). We'll be there, nice drive out if nothing else.

A far nicer evening is to be had at the Dog Parade run by KAR on Saturday evening starting at Girne Belediyesi at 7.30.Bring your rescue (and pedigree dogs) to join the parade, support a good cause and have a pleasant evening with like-minded people who really love dogs
