Points are not noted on your license but they are recorded on the computer. They expire after 15 months from the oldest entry i.e. it is not a sliding 15 month period.

NCMan, do you have any points against you? tut tut, I have none on my records

Point to note for all.

If you are unfortunate to get a speeding fine , check the date, time & the where abouts of your vehicle @ that time.

maybe someone can explain if my daughter is caught on the camara for speed limits, do I as owner of car living abroad at the time have the penalty noted on my passport and license,I dont mind paying the fine, its noting the offence on my name on their computer that hurt my feelings, next time I am informed of fine pending on arrival at the airport can I send her off to pay and have the offence noted on her name instead ,that would make me feel better and help her make better judgement on road speed limits !!!

Basheer,

When the ticket comes home your daughter should accept service and then go along to the police station and admit to speeding. If they cannot find anybody to serve the ticket, then they will tell you to go to the police station and take your ticket. If your daughter is in the country you should take her with you and let her take the points. I don't know what happens if she is not in the country but you tell the police that she was driving at the time. With car hire firms, they simply supply copies of passports of the drivers at the time.

I would have thought that it would be easier to take the points back but not the money

Do you have any advice on this , as the Police can keep the money as the Garage has re-imbursed me.

All we want are the points taken off by the way we are talking 50 points here , the mechanic was doing 120 k's in a 50 k limit.

If the mechanic has a valid license and owns up to speeding officially, you should go together to the pdolice station and hopefully it should be sorted out. If not send a letter to the Attorney General and the Police Headquarters and inform them officially of the mistake. then sit tight and wait for the 15 months to expire. If you manage to get another 50 points, this time take the mechanic with you and let him own up to the new points. If he does not, do not pay, just wait for the summonses. It may never come. You already know about me and my views on the subject.

Apparently you can pay (70Tl I think) for the privilege of getting a copy of the photo that the speed camera took. And sometimes you can see the drivers face. Not guaranteed because cameras on single carriageways can clock speeders on both sides of the road so you may only get a picture of the rear of the driver but it may be enough to determine the driver.

A year last March I went through the speed camera at the army base neart Ercan on the mountain road

Last September I was told on the fifth time of leaving and entering TRNC "Problem Police Girni camera"

So i went to the police station i wanted to see the picture !

Girni police sent me to Lefkosa station

I talked my way upto the third floor and they got to look at the picture on a computer up there was my good lady wife sitting in the passenger seat not a smile for the camera all you could see of me was my arms as I have the seat right back no smile from me 180tl fine

No fee for seeing the picture that they should not have shown me very nice people though

So when do the points run out when after 15 months from the offence in March or from when the fine paid September?

From the offence in March unless you already had points earlier.

Thanks Ismet,

So as the offence was Sept 09, but just caught up with us Sept 10 when the fine was paid.

Does this mean that the points expire in Dec this year?
