Regarding the gate to my driveway... One side of a heavy gate needs to be welded back onto its post. Fella came out to the house to look. He said 100tl to get the job done tomorrow afternoon. Is this a fair price? Thanks

You have had one quote for a job which we haven't seen and you want us to decide whether it's fair or not? Your profile doesn't show where you live and you don't say how far the welder would need to travel to get to your job and back. I think you'll find my last comment was about the only way you'll come to a decision.

I have no clue what the cost is for such things. I'm not going to waste workers' time gathering quotes for such a small job. Which is why I reached out to Cy44 to see if anybody had an idea. I gave you all the pertinent information you do not need to see a quotation. He will travel approximately 1.27654 kilometers to my house. What I was asking is whether or not this was in the ball park asshole.

Seems a tad steep to me... Is there not a building site near you? You can often find some welding going on and get it done for 20TL or so..

I agree with TRNCV 100% but your quote of 100 TL is absolutely in the park. I would accept it quickly and not waste anyone elses time. Chegwin

Thank you Groucho for explaining what is USUAL around here. I went to the local shop in my village. I wanted to give them some business. I don't mind paying that. I've just been putting a lot of money out lately with my new move so I'm tightening up a bit on my charity. I have no problem paying that to the fella if it is in the ballpark.

Hi Molly, I suppose someone neeeds to travel and bring thier welding gear with them, then its not to bad. But on the other hand I suppose if hes there a short time, then it will seem expensive. Just ask him to do it for 80 TL, I very rarley take the first price qouted. Always try and save a bit, it makes you feel better.

Wow TRNC Vaughan only gave you a valid comment. It is alway prudent to get a second ptrice if as you said you had no idea what this sort of thing costs Asshole was a bit uncalled for Ps did he paint the weld and surrounding metal work after it was cool. if not it will rust and you will have to get it done again this is not in any way shape or form derogatory but a really valid point or just paint it yourself.

If this ole’ bird really is 80 then you’d have thought, with years of wisdom, that upon reviewing the first post she would see the vagueness about it and understand. Still, takes all. Heavy gates I have weigh two tone each!!! Crane came in at 500TL before a spark was struck......... Chegs

Old, but may raise a titter. A gang of tinkers arrived at the Pearly Gates demanding entry and the gateman was so frightened by their aggression that he locked up and ran to St Peter for guidance. St Peter said that Heaven was no place for the like of Pikeys, there were standards to be maintained. He told the gateman to get rid of them but he responded by saying "you get rid of them". With that St Peter said well we are supposed to be foregiving so tell them that just this time they can enter but no more afterwards. The gateman went off but was soon back again and told St Peter that they had gone. St Peter said "the pikeys ?" and the gateman replied "no the effing gates" !

Why can you lot not stop falling out over nothing!! It was a question It was given an answer. Not the answer you wanted to read? Ignore it then. If your answers are ignored don't offer them again. It's like a flaming playground on here sometimes. You have all got so much to offer each other. Strength is in unity and the way things are shaping up over there with the property issues, your all going to need each other.

gates, why must you quote in stirling, do you believe every person in the north of the island is either TC, Turkish or british. From what I see, the lady is talking about a single joint to be welded, granted it might require a couple of runs and might require a lot of prep but considering the lady is not a welder and probably doesn't understand the requirements, I would say that asking for a rough guide to the price is acceptable. The fact that she might have been upset about the helpfulness of Vaughan's answer is also understandable to a point. If she had wanted several quotes she might well have gone ahead and done that without advice but bear in mind if you were asked to come out that 5 miles you are so pee'd off about to look at potential work and find out you have been under quoted by a friendly builders mate around the corner. I am sorry Molly, I have no idea whether that would be a fair price or not. Why do you all need to find the greatest height to shit on people, mo

Chegs, I am not saying Molly was correct, just that Vaughans answer could be a little frustrating for someone, granted the a** comment was a little over the top but I think there might be more to that. What I do think is childish are all the hangers on who just want to attack Molly for asking a simple question, similar to many others seen on here about fair prices. With all the so called experts importing themselves from the UK, I would expect at least 1 to have a rough guide into the answer.
