Does anyone know the opening times of the olive oil factory at Karsiyaka or if there is one nearer to Malatya/Alsancak.

sorry I don't.

Another question about it though, do you know how much olive oil they give in return to say 1kg of olives?

Roughly 25%.

So, for 20kg olives returns roughly 5kg of oil, so I was told, but I was in a bar.

Find that a good return, if true, but somehow..........well, I am sure there are more well informed than I.

last year we had a baby bath full, and a tuff crate almost 3/4 and we got 11 litres of oil and the cost was 20tl.....previous year we had almost the same but only 9 litres. Last year it opened at 8 in Karsiyaka.. Sorry do not know what weight we had. 5 years ago our first picking the man down there asked if they were our first olives, we said yes and he said I should not put a small quantity through 1/2 baby bath - but he did and we got 4 litres....... HAPPY PICKING we are enjoying ours now!!!!!!!!! Year 2 we had to share with someone else. Since we started feeding and watering the old tree (approx 600years old) it has produced more than enough for us the share with our families and friends. Sue

olive trees need maintenance = cutting regulary. if you dont, you can water and fertilize as much as you like.. no olives, but a lot of new limbs. true, olives contain approx 25 % of oil, but 20 or even 15% only are also very common, see maintenance. important is that you go immediately after harvest = max 24 hrs to the mill, otherwise you get trouble with the oil- acid-levels.
