If everyone provides their true identities, I believe a lot of problems on 44 will disappear.

If everyone is anonymous, there will be problems, but if you do not really know who you are arguing with, it cannot go too far.

The problem here, IMHO, is that some are anonymous and some are genuine.

With so many anonymous members, it has become too dangerous, to show your true identity.

I think it's time to make a new rule; either anonymity, or only absolutly genuine members.

Finally, if the FA's were anonymous, they will be slagged off a lot less. A FA, could still post under their true identity, but moderate under an anonymous identity.

Pugwash, as my identity states, my name is Steve. Nuff said!

The reason will be come clear after the next sentence.

Jefferson, so you put your real name up on your profile, no email though. I wonder why? You have also given your telephine number in a post about packing boxes.

Now if I was one of these "nutters", I would have your telephone number but you would not have mine.

This was why I wished to debate this issue, not be told I can't post.

Regards

Steve

I think if people have something to say they should have the courage to show their own name and where they live in their profile - if you want to remain anonymous remain silent.

Just my own opinion

I guess it comes down to whether you believe that there will be backlash if you give your true identity, I can be as argumentative as most and much more than some but I am very easy to find if someone requires a face to face apology for my indiscretions but bear in mind that we can't be right all the time so I might not be due to apologise.

I personally think the forum has run its course and is on a downward spiral, there are still a lot of nice helpful people available but there are far too many trouble makers who can join as anyone and post whatever they want just to make things worse.

Who cares they either like you or they don't. I think only true identity should be used. Because easier to find out who is who. Then those coming on with false id's could be easier to just dismiss because they are nobody's.

Check the replies?

Some jokes; from members with 4500+ posts!

Others have a little dig.

And a couple who wish to debate the issue and continue the topic.

Pugwash, I think because we live in a "goldfish bowl" and beer/wine is cheap and freely available, my personal opinion, for what it's worth, is for everyone to be anonymous. That way, it will never get too serious.

I do not think you can ever get all genuine ID's. They may appear to be genuine, but it only takes one idiot to cause some serious stuff.

I think if everyone was genuine, this forum would disappear very quickly, and/or become too "happy-clappy".

One final point, those members that do not post are well and truly in the majority. I estimate for every regular poster, there are probaly 30-50 that do not post. How can we get them to post? This will then increase the opinions and make it more balanced. There's a good word "BALANCED".

Scoty has an opinion that you do not agree with. This is how Scoty feels.

If you were Scoty, or any one of the hundreds that shares his feelings/opinions, would you even bother to get involved on here? He stuck his neck above the parapet, and gets his bo***cks shot down!

On a serious note; your post was excellent after the personal insult.

I did in no way want to insult or belittle Scoty. if he / she feels left out they are more than welcome to come with me and meet the lovely people on this island.

Believe it or not i was so shy at one time in life I blamed other people for having friends that I did not!!

Scoty if you feel you want to meet more folks here e-mail me. That applies to you as well Texas.

Nice post Nursey.

It's strange but when a topic gets a little "heat" in it, there appears to me, that the posts quicky follow one another.

When things are "settled" as they now appear to be, the topic loses interest!

I think most friendships need to be built gradually. Perhaps some members would like to post a bit more, ask a few questions, give some help and take it nice and slow.

Cyprus 44 should be the vehicle that can make this happen.

That's one of the funniest posts for a long time.

However, I might find it funny, but I bet you someone, maybe with experience of this condition, will feel the need to "have a go".

This just shows you can't please everyone.

Before I post anything, I imagine myself in a restaurant with a group of people, most of whom are acquaintances, thinking before I say something, how will it come accross?

Even then, it sometimes goes wrong, even when I read my post before hitting the "post reply" button!

Steve,

It's a nice idea but given the attacks that occur from time to time I don't advise people to publish their email address on this BB. Evidence of abuse of members' email is all too frequently apparent.

I know you and you know me... lots of people know who I am and anybody I think could benefit from knowing how to contact me off-board I give my details and/or number to. Although with no PM facility it's not so easy.

If such a rule was brought in, how would you police it? How would you make someone prove they are who they say they are? Particularly those 'overseas' members....

i am!

i genuinely want to meet people out here and enjoy my time in cyprus

i personally dont want to hide behind any fences

ive provided a lot of information on this site and i dont see anything wrong with that.

the only thing i havent done on here is sent in a photo .. but im sure that as ive provided my email address a quick facebook search would show exactly who i am.

this site was intended as a means to help people, answer each others questions, give opinions and show support for those not having such a good day

i dont see anything wrong with that

I'll meet up with you in Town but my humour, old age and ugliness was enough to prevent any mosquitoes entering my flat this year, word got around even to the insect community! Much of the trouble is that people read into many posts things that are not there, when one makes a comment or questions something, the guard comes up and some think that it is a personal attack on them, mostly it is not so and there have been some corkers on here lately, but do the mods do anything about it - seldom - and usually for the wrong reasons when action is taken

re msg 31 youre funny! and probably would enjoy a beer with you. out here it doesnt matter what we look like were all expats and tend to/should stick together.(i dont speak any turkish so id have a job on my hands otherwise) ive regularly found especially in a coffee shop in town that all the expats get together have a bit of banter and blether then get on with our days. its enjoyable and a great way to meet people when youre new here

and msg 36 im not bothered about id fraud .. im not going back to live in GB we cant get credit here my name and email address isnt giving away my uk or nc addresses my dob national insurance bank or passport details,

there may be people who have exaggerated opinions and those who want to cause debate - let them - gives us something to talk to them about when you meet them in random places but if we dont know who they are or real names its going to make it a lot harder out here between strangers than it needs to be

Still no answer to the question of policing such a rule....

We have business members too.... how do we have pictures for Credit West?

I have been trying for months to get me picture up (a replacement for my old avatar which was judged unsuitable for this board) yet other members have clearly got pictures which are not them... if this can't be policed I don't have much confidence that the rest can be enforced.

As has been said before, I think that it would be nigh on impossible to 'prove' ones real identity when becoming a member, short of sending a scanned copy of your passport to the Mods !! In reality, if people played by the rules there shouldn't be a need for it.

Forums/bulletin boards are meant to be there for people to seek information or debate a wide range of local/international issues, unfortunately, it seems that a small group of the 'membership' are intent on having a slanging match regardless of the subject being discussed. Debate is based on the premise of people discussing an issue upon which they have differing views, but just because you have differing views does not mean that debate has to become personal (as it does all too often on here). Once you make it personal, then as far as I am concerned, you have lost the argument.

Until folks start to show each other a bit of respect , then the forum can only go one way - downwards !!

Texas,

Agree fully with your first post, however you then comment on mess3 about no email, you yourself have not stated your email/gender/marital staus/location or occupation.

If you needed help/assistance and members knew where you were located then you might get more response.

For example I live out near Tatlisu, but if someone wanted to borrow something or needed a lift etc and I did not know where they were located then I would not bother to respond.

Japeal never met you but liked your post on another board, you seem to be a rational character, it does get you down when you post things and they get taken the wrong way, your post is a good one again and makes sense but there are many on here and I include some mods who have huge chips on their shoulders and are incapable of rational discussion, I think it may be the sun and dont you see some of them they must have the last word.

Nurseawful you are a lovely person but you have been savaged on occasion as well, if some of these people were to stop and think for even 30 seconds and reread their posts before hitting the send button it might help, you can tell they are either inebriated or fizzing with anger by the way the posts are typed.

But hey it makes for good television as they say

Paul,

I agree, it's all a matter of trust.. some 'members' reason for joining in is to cause strife - it seems that is how they get their kicks.

Also think that once a poster uses phrases like 'get a life' they have gone off topic and have no useful input.

Japeal, message 48.

Any additional information regarding my missing information, could (and would) be taken by those who choose to disagree with me, in a way in which would not be in my best interests. Phew, that was a long sentence!

If I do need help, then I would set up an alternate email address, so members could contact me. I would also buy a PAYG sim card, pay cash (not use it near my home, Gavin!) and give out that number. You can now buy PAYG sim cards without proving who you are.

Until this forum has the facility to send a PM (Personal Message) I refuse to send in my photo, or supply any additional information. There are just too many sad bastards who will use this information to further their own sad lives.

However, there are quite a number of members who do know who I am.

Brinsley, the member name "Texas" has nothing whatsoever to do with a State in America!

Looking at some of the posts over the last week you must have a death wish to put your photo on here the way some people resort to rabid pack hound tactics you could well live to regret it.

Having read the rules I can not understand why some are allowed to get away with it ??

I shall not be putting my photo on or joining the facebook group to leave my self open to abuse should I fall foul of they THAT APPEAR TO HAVE FREE REIGN.

Thankyou Chris, msg47.

The way I see this is that no written message can ever convey the tone of the sender. So while some people may find something amusing, others may take offence. It is so difficult reading some of the past posts and trying to understand the' tone' in which it was sent.

I spent a long time reading the postsings before joining up?. Then took the plunge. I will only post if I have something useful to say.

However, I did ask a simple question yesterday, and although it may have appeared trivial it was genuine, yet some of the responses I got I didn't understand
