It worked for me, but I do not really believe that you are a big, hairy dog wearing sunglasses.

It used to work Groucho but as I understand it Izzet is the only person authorised to add it to the profiles and I think he has his priorities elsewhere these days.

Maybe this function needs to be delegated then... or remove the restriction.

Groucho, you have my complete agreement, I think quite a few things should be re-delegated and then the forum might improve to the point where it becomes helpful again and not an antagonists playground.

A few months ago, people were being positively encouraged to send in photos. (I think there was an incentive of money going to charity, from memory). Lots of people had their photos uploaded at this time. Is it time for a similar initiative?

sloan, you are right but I don't remember if it was AJ or No.1 who donated 50 GBP if 10 others posted there picture.

I agree that people should post photos of themselves but it should be to stop the anonymity and not for charity however it still would not solve the problem that Izzet has far less to do with the forum than he used to but has not allocated anyone the rights to carry out the required tasks.

Most of you may not be waiting for my picture, but I'd support Izzet's request again if I knew for certain that I'd talk to real people on this board all the time. I really hate to get involved in "discussions" with faked names on cheating profiles. I find that a more important problem than a picture or avatar.

Agree, proger1, the initiative should be to encourage bona fide posters to post photos. The charity donation was just incidental, but during that period, lots of photos were posted. Perhaps Izzet could set aside a month, say, and delegate a trusted forum administrator to vet the photos sent in. I, personally, pay much more attention to posts where the poster has a photo (or from people I have actually met). It could cut down on some of the nastiness we have had on the forum of late. To me, it smacks of cowardice to post virulent insults and then hide behind anonimity.

If a genuine picture of a member was added at time of joining the board - no picture, no joining - then that would sort a lot of problems on here.

Scoty, the problem is how do you know the picture is genuine?

RE msg 1, PaulW: (...) Scoty, the problem is how do you know the picture is genuine? (...)

=> When joining C44 every new member should give IZZET one or two names of members or email addresses of friends where "my name and picture are genuine" could (COULD!) be verified. Gradually all members and "members" could be approached. It would mean a clean and reliable board.

Hans, that is a very, very good idea.

It would be easy to do even now for most of the regular members however it might cause problems for the holiday makers and as Izzet does appear to try and raise the numbers of hits as a priority I don't think he will agree to it.

RE msg 14, proger1: (...) I don't think he will agree to it. (...)

=> Paul, I do not question Izzet's right to run the board as he sees fit. But I think he's a reasonable young man and most probably he would consider several suggestions of members if more members would support these suggestions.

Now (supportive and well meant) threads are started - suggestions included - but they die because very few members join the discussion.

Maybe the majority of members don't care and they are happy the way C44 is set up at the moment? If so, I'm afraid that C44 will not survive in the long run because one cannot trust or like the content anymore. Just a thought.

it seems like we need the stasi on here to keep track of who is whom and what shoe size they take.

Hans, I agree and hope that you are right about Izzet at least entertaining the idea.

There definately needs to be a sweep through in my opinion to improve the standards to what it once was, this idea you have suggested certainly has merit and would be a good starting point. At the very least it could have a time based check where members can get verification by other members up to a certain time and thereafter the member name be blocked until such time as the member in question who is blocked requests re-activation by means of verification. This would not lose any of the existing members.

I like the idea and hope that Izzet can at least use it as a basis for improving the membership system.

Dear Jeannie, it's the way "the rest of the world" (errrm, the Dutch) spell this Polish noble man's name (wink, wink...).
