This one, which I saved up my pocket money for and then my Father went ballistic when I played it on his Hi-Fi system! The one with the arm & needle! I now have to agree with him, so much for old age!

First single: World Without Love - Peter & Gordon. Bought with birthday money and I was too young to go to town on my own so my Mum had to take me.

Six years later, second record bought and first album: Air Conditioning - Curved Air. Managed to go by myself for this one. ;-)

There was a 4 year gap between 'Living Doll' and 'Beatles for Sale' -what happened?

PS Did you know 'Beatles for Sale' was released in UK on same day as JKK was shot?

Oh dear...think my first ever album was The Monkees! However, within a year or so I did cash it in and buy Anold Layne by Pink Floyd ! I then progressed rapidly buying Wheels of Fire by Cream.

My first Album was "Hits 68" from Woolworths. A compilation album by singers who sounded almost as good as the originals. It was probably about 10 shillings, a LOT of money for me in those days. Trying desperately hard to remember the label, I think it might have been Wooly's own, but having difficulty .Help any one?......

I bought my copy of Led Zeppelin II from Jon Moss for 50p, he later went on to be the drummer for that strange bloke who wore a dress and a hat and sang Karma Chamaeleon . You know who I mean. Blimey, this thread is REALLY stretching my memory. Boy George?

I like all kinds of music from Crooners, Swing, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Disco, Pop and Rock etc ----- so i kinda think that explains my first record buys - keep an open mind and listen to everything as some stuff in there tends to suprise you from time to time.

msg 2. for many reasons.

My first album which i still have and now playing through my ears Whole Lotta Love by Led Zepplin.

As a child that danced about places such as Germany, Cyprus, South Wales.

My first Motorhead concert would have been some 32 years ago.

Still to this day my girlfriend / wife, with total understanding of perhaps my never return; from many of my engineering locations (sod me and the coffin its expensive).

A Church rendering of Ace Of Spades and a carving of 'Thats the way i like it baby and im not gonna live forever'.

We are mates with Lemmy and this year is his 35 anniversary. Such a character, we love him. x

My two first singles were Cliff Richard's 'Livin' Doll' and Buddy Holly's 'Brown Eyed Handsome Man'. My first EP was by the Shadows and my first album was 'The Buddy Holly Story' in 1959.

Yeah great days spent at my local youth club. I was only 12 years old, but I lied about my age and manage to get in and Rock 'n' Roll the evenings away with the lads & lasses who were quite a few years older than me. It was my first girlfriend who started me off with my lifetime love of listening to Brenda Lee. I did once see her on stage in York about 20 years ago - and she was as good then as she was when she first started singing in the late 50's.

Msg 71

I started on Embassy, used to buy 20 on Fridays on the way to the pictures, lasted me all weekend, 3/8d for 20! You collected the vouchers for gifts.

Mondays it was 10 No6, 1/8d for 10 packet, lasted until Friday.

No wonder I have emphysema!

My First album was The Bay City Rollers. We even dressed to look like them in our half=mast tartan edge trousers, striped socks, baseball boots and tartan scarve. I remember turning up for school one day feeling very proud of my outfit, soon got sent home though :(

Loved the Bay City Rollers & had the high waisted trousers trimmed with tartan ha ha but 1st single was Donny Osmond " Puppy Love" and 1st album was most probably a Top Of The Pops with singers covering the real deal .... Y x

1956 Elvis Presley Heartbreak Hotel and my mum asked me to get Slim Whitman singing Rose Marie. Both 78s, and was 4 weeks before I saved up enough to buy another record.

1st single was Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves by Cher, cost 50p if I recall correctly. A few years later I bought A Day at the Races by Queen.

Greylag...Richard Thompson is one of the greats...said to be what all rock gutarists dread - a good folk guitarist who can play electric (For more proof of this listen to THE great -but sadly late-John Martyn). I cherish the album he did with his wife Linda "I Wanna See The Bright Lights Tonight". He was a member of Fairport Convention in the late 60's and early 70's when Sandy Denny was the vocalist. Check out "Liege and Lief" by them

Roxy were/are one of the very best. Excellent live. Saw the original band way back in 72 at a place called the Hardrock near Old Trafford cricket ground....think it's a supermarket now! Enjoyed a concert by them at The Arena in Manchester about 7 years ago. Brian is always a guest on Jools Holland's shows so he must be good!
