i Jonny Focus re message 1.

I'm so pleased you have discovered Fikri's "masterpiece" his mousakka.

When we are out in NC we eat at the secret terrace once a week and always have mousakka, boring I know but hey, you can't improve on perfection.

Hi Woodspeckie

Turn left just before Highlife follow the road down to the sea you can't miss it.

As you turn off the main road there is a small supermarket on the corner where there are lots of inflatable toys for swimming on display.

Now I know this might sound really strange but just pause for a second and imagine that the people you are advising to go to the restaurant don't live in the same street as you and might need a little more help with the directions.

Try starting with east or west of Kyrenia please, I live on the east side so if you are talikng about somewhere on the west side I would appreciate a little more help, I don't know or if I do know, can't remmeber where high life is either.

It would be much appreciated and I am sure the owner would also be happy to have more customers.

Thanks, Paul

The 'secret terrace' is Taners....in Karakum. It is signposted on the main road, but I think that it might be a bit difficult to find if you don't know the turn. As you come out of Girne towards Karakum, the turning is on the left down towards the sea. It is very nice.

It is on a slight bend, on the left on road towards Catalkoy, there is a sign Tanners Terrace Bar there is a second hand furniture shop on the corner of this turning, and a turning on right, with a butcher on the corner.

For anyone who lives west of Girne,' Seveners' (just before the Golden lady statue in Alsancak ) also do a fantastic mousakka . Prices are reasonable as well.

thank you all for your lovely wishes, i have a sign up on the main road but it doesnt flash as it should so i will get it changed as early as possible so that the turning will be a bit more clear.

my restaurant is not in a very easy location i know but this has advantages and disadvantages. not much traffic, noise or dust while you are enjoying your food or drink with a lovely sea view but on the other hand its not very easy to find the place.

the restaurant is in karakum at the east side of girne. as you come from town its the left turning after 1.1km as you pass the new harbour roundabout, pass lemar, alesta, stroll in restaurant and also after çağlaş market and as you come from çatalköy its the right turning after petrol station, court yard and high life hotel.

if this wont be enough you can call me on 0533 841 0550 anytime u like, try us once, u wont regret

just a thought, with all of the publicity for your mousakka especially as they are served in individual potts would you consider offering mouskka on a single basis rather than a minimum of two servings?

Taners terrance:

We ate at your place the other night and really enjoyed the meal, yes it was musakka. One piece of feedback though. It would be very nice if you put half a loaf of bread on the table to nibble at while waiting for the meal, with say olive oil and balsamic vinagre. The cost of bread is next to nothing, but it would keep the customers happy while enjoying their drink.

Totally agree with all positive comments regarding the Mousakka so for fish lovers the fish pie is a must. It is not on the menu, just order it and it will do itself justice and not disapoint. Agree about the nibbles to start with. Wonderfull location, excellent hospitality from 'mine host' Fikri. Hope that you all enjoy.

It is really heartining to see a thread rapidly approaching 1000 hits where there has been no sniping.

To read of the increased turnover resulting from the positive experiences of fellow C44 users is indeed testament to the influence of C44 when it is being used to convey views that are expressed using a fair and reasonable tone.

Maybe that is as much due with Fikri the man as the wonderful restaurant he owns.

Out again in a couple of weeks time and really looking forward to sampling the moussaka again. We have also had take away moussaka from Tanners for those cosy evenings in! We always recommend a trip to Tanners to our friends and family who use our villa - they have never been disappointed.

Have to whole heartedly agree. The mousakka at Fikri's (Taner's Secret Terrace) is lovely. But must say, we haven't had anything off the menu yet that hasn't been nice. Well done Fikri, keep up the good work.

I've always prefered my mousaka made in the morning (or day before) and allowed to go cold, cut into squares and then served warm to hot. Everyones different I suppose. My dad likes his mousaka with potato at the bottom, I prefer it without.

I must admit that I had a freshly baked one once a few years ago which I did really enjoy though.

We spent another lovely evening at Taners Terrace last night. Delicious spring roll, very tasty salad and those wondeful 'wedgy' chips followed by the now infamous Moussakka!

Thank you Fikri............see you again very soon.

Hi Lapta Mike re message 45.

Interesting, I always prefer my stew and dumplings second time around the following day.

As a suggestion for one winter evening:

Fikri organises a blind tasting comparison between fresh and warmed up moussaka with a few bottles of red wine it could be great fun

I dont think you can beat the restaraunt at the harbour, begins with ch.... and is right next to the castle.....same chef for five years at least.....it is really delish...........but always willing to try new moussake any place, any time, any where.................

Hi all good morning

Re Crofter's mail no.56.

Fikri you must stop ordering me the moussaka so I can examine the menu.

I certainly will try the meatballs in pomegranate sauce, I will even supply the pomegranate from our garden!!

Great news about the sales of your Moussaka if it were a film it would certainly win the OSKAR for:

Hi All good morning

Even though I am in England I have a constant reminder of the wonderful Moussaka on offer at the Secret Terrace.

My Wife Chris. and I were in England one evening when we received a message on my mobile, it was in fact a photo sent by my son from The Secret Terrace showing a piping hot Moussaka just presented to the table.

Imagine our surprise when a half hour later we received another photo this time showing an empty Moussaka pot.

I have the piping hot Moussaka set as my screen filler so every time I use my mobile I am transported to the Secret Terrace.

Brilliant

and pippie the musakka is 20 tl with the sides and most of the dishes on my menu are between 15 and 25 including any sides you choose.

zppkeeper i dont have it on google but i tried to describe where i am on the previous posts on this thread so i hope that helps, we are working on a website at the moment which will include eery information you will need.

And Fikri thank you for the take away the other lunchtime on tarmac machinery day!

Judy and I enjoyed our lunch and those two working men thoroughly enjoyed theirs too!

Not out again until April. Do you think the queues will have died down enough for me to get a table?

I can't wait now to come and try it, all sounds great.

Also agree nice to have a clean thread for once.

Hi Fikri

Friends of ours ate at your restaurant last night and rang Chris and I to rave about a fantastic evening.

After all the postings about your Musakka they both ordered it.

Their comment was, "every bit as good as the hype, definitely going back for our last night"

They also said the 10 minute stroll back to their Hotel was perfect to walk off their "bursting bellies"

Had another fantastic evening at The Terrace last night.

For all you fish lovers out there you must try Fikris homemade fish cakes.

We tried them last night and they were delicious. Two tasty, reasonably sized fish cakes, vegetables, wedgy chips and coleslaw.

We will be back very soon!

If you keep advertising this place you'll not be able to get a table next time you want one

Lovely mousakka though it is....

Hi Everyone good morning

Re message 73 from Crofter.

Good home made fishcakes are just about my favourite meal so I can't wait till were next out to sample them.

Just a thought Fikri.

If I starve myself during the day could I have a starter size fishcake with some salad to start, I can then have Musakka for my main course "perfik"

Coming out a week tomorrow and looking forward to seeing you again Fikri - we will be down with our friends and who knows we might try some of the other suggestions off the menu! Last time we had the fish and chips which were just as good as the moussaka.

If you can get Dougskud to change his choice- guess we will will have a good read of the menu too!!!

See you soon! Val & Chris

Hi again Taners,

With a name like 'The Terrace' I thought I'd better ask, are there lots of steps or is it reasonably wheelchair friendly?

hi pippie, the restaurant has 2 different dining areas. one is the open terrace which you can go up with stairs or the closed area with sliding windows opening for summer and with a nice wood burner in winter but both areas have a nice cea view. to the closed area there are 2 steps and i had a wood platform that fits those stairs and makes it straight, but about 10 days ago i had my parking area tarmac so it doesnt fit now and thank you so much for reminding it to me cause first thing tomorrow i will ask my carpenter to fit it or i think i will need a new one. so soon the wheelchair entry will be available

Incorrect andrew4232 Turkey does have its own mousakka dish as does Cyprus which is different from the Greek one and is locally called Musaka, all around the Med they have their own versions of this dish. Fikris is as authentic as you can get.

In fact Andrew4232 it is an Arabic dish see below, so it is as Turkish as it is Greek.

Moussaka from Arabic musaqqaʿa 'chilled' (names borrowed by other languages: Greek: Mousakas, South Slavic: musaka/мусака, Turkish: musakka, Hungarian: rakott padlizsán - from the Turkish word for aubergine, patlıcan) is an aubergine-based dish of the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Though its variations are part of all the national cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire and has an Arabic name, in the West it is best known in its Greek form.

And I'll put my bib in once again too. A few nights ago I took my wife there, entirely due to this thread, to try this fabulous moussaka, and it was. The chef's mother was there as her son was away getting supplies, but Ali (I think) did a superb job on the moussaka anyway. Mum chatted to us, as there were few people there at the time, and helped us enjoy our meal very much. She even allowed us to take most of my wife's meal home in their dish, as my wife couldn't finish the generous helping.

We will return the dish when we go there again tonight...

Now I know where it is I will definitely try it next time am over as I pass through Karakum most days

and I love mousaka/musaka etc.... of all kinds. Didn't know it was a name from Arabic, (like yoghurt)

but here in U.K people only seem to know these things as Greek.

Hi Fikri nice to hear the Moussaka is still selling well.

As you have probably seen we have lots of snow at present and yesterday I spent three hours clearing snow from our drive and pavements.

When I gave up I was frozen and thought to myself one of Fikri's mousakas would slip down a treat.

kind regards

I have not tried Mousaka ever, but I did make a pastitsia, I think it is called, the other day, very similar I believe. I guess it is made in Cyprus, it certainly is in Greece.. I got the recipe from watching Rick Stien on tv. Very nice it was too. Chok Lesetlee
