I have a shared electricity meter box and one of my neighbours a brit is hooking up to my meter and stealing electricity when I am out of the country. I have reported it to the police and Kibris but they need to actually find the tap in place before taking action. Has anyone else suffered this problem or had any ideas how to catch the culprit in the act. I know who it is and the obvious solution but don’t want to break any laws in a country that is quite prepared persecute the innocent beyond belief, let alone the guilty. Any practical advice would be appreciated.

If you dont need any power to your home while your away, put a pad lock on the meter box This way you have made sure that no one can get at the electric or get electricuted

I would be inclined to cut a small slot in the cover if it has,nt got one and fit a peice of glass or perspex over it so Kibtec can read your meters.

If youn do need power

If the person who shares your meter box, says he needs to get to the meter, NO he doesn't unless he is changing his distribution board which would be highly unlikly, but you could leave a key with a trusted person then he has no excuse

Good luck

I had the same with my water some theiving ----------- took 90 tons off my meter like you I have my suspition got locking taps stopped the bugger. got a £ 100 water bill

I can't lock the meter box, I paid for it and the power line down the whole road, but it is now a shared box. Friends are checking the meter reading on regular basis and I would prefer to get him caught officially if possible. I will try softly softly for a while because it would be good to rid the island of a thief, but I am £700 down already due for a sense of humor failure. What goes around comes around.

An electrician friend wants to double the power and burn out his wiring but I am holding back on that as well for a while.

Would'nt reccommend the double up power thing , mighty dangerious you could be the one in court on manslaughter charges

Please dont go down that route

The other thing you could do is seperatly box in your meter so he cant get to your wiring
