Anyone have experience or know what the facilities are like if one has a heart attack. What is the procedure, do you just drive to the main hospital?

Thanks

If I were you I'd call an ambulance - or get someone to drive you! Oh and take an aspirin straight away!

Defibrillators are what you want to be praying for. Not sure if the TRNC have many or any available.

Yes. I got 100% good (and obviously succesful... ) treatment in the Lefkoşa State Hospital after my heart stopped beating four times in two hours.

My advice is: write down this mobile phone number of Dr. (heart surgeon) Erkut Asicioglu in Lefkoşa: 05338765858. If something goes very wrong or you don't feel weel and suspect a heart problem - call him any time 7/24. He's great.

Forgot to add: if you want to pay Dr. (heart surgeon) Erkut Asicioglu a visit in his private clinic: it's in the same street as the China Bazar and his name is shown on the front of the house.

Put systems in place for someone to drive you to hospital , the ambulance service is still in its infancy .

The ambulance service here is quite well equipped. The vehicles have a paramedic, nurse and driver and occasionally a doctor depending on circumstances.

The 112 charity that supports the service has at its head a former senior officer from UK who is ensuring that each ambulance has the best equipment available. Do not know the current base line or what is on Uk vehicles now but I think you can be assured of a good service.

In most cases you will probably end up in Lefkosa and the docs there are getting the best training from Turkey. Not at transplant level yet but under guidance of Turkish surgeons they are being trained accordingley.

Only direct contact with emergency service to date was in Girne and friend who was quite ill could not have been better served.

My Father had a heart attack here last year, the ambulance arrive within 8 mins, they had a very well eqiuped bus. He was taken to Girne Hospital for about Ten mins it was then that they decided he should go to Lefkosa. By the time my self and step mother had arrived at the Lefkosa state hospital he was already in the opperating room getting two stents put in. All in All about 1 hour start to finish. We even have a DVD of the opperation. He was then kept in the new Cardo unit for 2 days before being moved to the main ward.

After returning to the Uk he was told by his doctor that it would have taken at least 3 weeks for the same treatment there.

I have nothing but praise for the ambulace service, girne Hospital and Lefkosa hospital, especailly the cardo unit.

Dr Erkut was also one of my fathers doctors.

My father is now doing great and feels like a new Man!!!

The whole treatment including after care was £1200. he did have medical insurance, which I recommend everyone has.

I hope this helps
