I often get suggestions made to me, most are ignored.........especially when writing on here after several galsses which is most nights. If you live here and goining through the mill as we are you will know what I mean! So a sober suggestion.

This one appears to be a good idea, has anyone else tried or had it done.

This is to tile the gulley around the pool to help preent seepage and wastage through concrete. I know we are told the gulley is sealed but it is usually quite a simple, thin coat of sealant.

Second suggestion is to tile the balance tank for the same reason.

Would be interested as I have a costing coming shortly.

The tiles in a pool are decorative, and do not form a waterproof barier.

It is the concrete with a waterproofer in it that forms the barrier , i.e if you put tiles on un-waterproofed concrete, the water will get behind them and they will lift-off.

Have a look here for some other info you might find usefull

For an 8x4m pool we can insulate your gulley and balance tank with 3 coats of 2-pot epoxy plastic sealant for £800. This stuff goes off in 20mins, is like glass and is absolutely waterproof.

My husband did the work himself, a messy smelly job but well worth it, saving on water well worth the effort, £800, I wonder if I can hire my other half out !!!!!

Hi Jessy, I don't know what sealant you used but the stuff we use, you can't buy - It's not for sale to the public.

If the stuff you used isn't 2-pot epoxy, it isn't horses for courses, so you can't compare the price. The type of stuff they sell in Marshalls is what most (not us) pool builders in TRNC use.

Their pools leak, ours don't.

I sell both components (epoxy resin and hardener) to the major paint companies who make these waterproofing systems. The raw materials are expensive these days and then the paint companies need to formulate their finished products and put on their margin.

Also, both components of the final system are classed as harzardous to health so need to be handled by trained operatives.

Vaughan is correct - there are one component systems available to the general public but the 2 pot epoxies will give much longer waterproof life, virtually indefinite.
