At the moment there's a booth northbound. It is open from 8am to 5pm, and they hope to have some sort of out of office contact. Southbound it's not open yet, but should be in a few days. The opening times will be the same.

I made a note of journey times and distances from central Girne, which might help those wanting to explore.

Lapta Strip. 15min/30Km

Camlibel 30min/28Km

Guzelyurt 55min/47Km

Yesilyurt 1h 08m/60Km

Gemikonagi 1h/15m Last fuel before Kato Pygos. Nice fish restaurant as you leave the village.

Soli 1h 25m/66Km

Vouni 1h 25m/72KM

Yesilirmak 1h 30m/76Km. The new road starts from here.

Crossing point 1h 42m/81Km

Kato Pygos 1h 45m/83Km. The GC checkpoint is at the village boundry. last chance for fuel before Polis.

Pomos 2h 27m/111Km. The journey from Kato Pygos to Pomos would be reduced from 28Km to about 5km, and the time from 45 minutes to about 15 minutes if the road through Erinkoy were to be opened

Nea Dimmata 2h 47m/118Km

Polis 3h 4m/123Km

From Girne to the crossing point fas a journey of 81Km, taking 1Hr 42Min. On my return to Girne, I decided to try the southern route along the new Guzelyurt dual carriageway. The journey was longer, at 89Km, and was 20 minutes shorter at 1H 22m, although this would be traff

Got hit by the character limit here.

The southern route was abviously faster, and with the better roads probably a saving on fuel. However, I was on the road at a quiet time of the day, and you could get well and truly held up in traffic at peak times. But certainly this route is worth considering for anybody living to the east of Girne.

As a point of interest, the journey time to the Gonyeli roundabout was 1 h 15Min, about a third of the time via the southern motorway system.
