Yesterday evening (16/10) there was a very beautiful event at Girne Amphitheatre : the third festival of the thurquish folkdance federation . It was absolutely splendid ! It started with a little concert of the Nicosia Municipality band and after we saw a large variety of different folkdances , with dancers in exceptional costumes ... It was also possible to find turquish cypriot food between stages at very , very low prices . The amphitheatre was very crowdy but I didn't see any expat ! Only turquish cypriots ... I am very surprised that such an event is not announced in "North Cyprus Events 44" !! Somebody has an explanation ?

Frenchman I think this is because it has been arranged by the locals and they only advertise in their own press, there is still a them and us over here, very sad because we can all benefit from each others events. When we take collection boxes around at events for The Cheshire Homes, at the Pia Bella, free entry, the TC's very rarely put a lira in the box.

Don't agree with the them and us. The Blues festival was a good mixture of locals and expats.

Blame the organisers of the festival for not advertising on this board. If we do not know about it how can we publicise it?

We do not scour the papers for items to put onto the events page. Any events shown are submitted by the event organisers. As and when you are aware of any events happening then please feel free to post the information on the events page.

Oh and by the way:

'Is it turquish cypriot press ?'

I get told off by my friends when I say 'Turkish Cypriot' as they tell me they are Cypriots first and Turkish second. So Cypriot Turks/Turkish should be used so not to offend.

I suggest you try to talk to the locals about it and see how you get on.

Message 7, I suggest you look at your own guide for Cyprus44 under the heading of "Turkish Cypriot people".

I think you are "nit-picking" in order to show a supercilious attitude towards someone who may not have English as their first language.

As for your Turkish Cypriot friends who speak Cypriot Turkish(and probably find it difficult to understand

Turkish)they are the extreme and having met "that" type myself then maybe its quite right to question whether the ex pat is really welcome in the TRNC in which case I would be quite happy to offend.
